Just back. Was cleaned and serviced and a new strap too
My favorite watch, my first good watch, worn by my dad and given to me 55 years ago.

Wanted to share with you collectors. Even though the case is showing it's age, the watch has always kept perfect time.

How much wear have you given the Omega in the 55 years since your father gave it to you? If you spare it, there might be another 65 years of wear in it. Enough to leave for another generation. But I suggest that it doesn’t see service as a daily driver. All good things must come to an end. Enjoy it.

I have worn the watch quite a bit in the past 55 years. I offered to my son and he didn't want it as he doesn't wear a watch.
I won't be saving or restoring this one ...... I am going to continue to wear it, not everyday, continue to enjoy it, and hope it lasts longer than me !

There are people that can replate it gold, but not many. If you like it as is. I hope it gives you great service!!

It’s a beautiful thing. My favorite threads are the watches passed on through families. Very nice looking seamaster I just decided I will wear mine for the rest of the evening.

Glad you decided to wear it tonight. I think from my time here learning, the DeVille was a more expensive watch back in the day

What a beautiful watch and story.

I have my Dad's Seamaster (1969) which I decided not to service and just keep it as is.

You should probably get that serviced. Running it dry is like using a car without oil.

If I know I won't wear the watch, is it necessary and wasteful? That's what some collectors have mentioned. Not every piece needs to be serviced. The money I'd spend on servicing the watch went to a JLC MUT which I wear and definitely will wear :)

Well if you're not wearing it, then that's a different story. I assumed you were wearing it at least somewhat regularly, as the OP mentioned.

Apologies for not being more clear. My father's watch is locked away for safe keeping since I don't plan to wear it.

Maybe one day someone will wear that watch again so keep it safe. Service it when the time comes, not now. Nice watch btw
