I was given a Rolex OP Date 15053 in 1988 by my parents for graduating from university. I wore it daily for years and had it serviced a couple of times. In 2011 I had the dial changed from champagne to black as it was becoming difficult to read it. I was never thrilled with the black dialed version for some reason and I regretted my decision to change the dial. About a month ago, I decided I would have the watch serviced, the dial replaced again and get a new bracelet for it. I took it to Rolex Canada and they sent it back to me today. I’m very pleased with the results. To me, the watch has never looked better. Here are a couple of photos. One before and a few “afters”.
I think the blue looks great. I have a two-tone Date with the champagne dial that I hardly ever wear because I think it looks a bit old man-ish. The OP's pics are making me strongly consider going blue. Thumbs up!
But didn't you pay for it when you bought it last service. Did you have to pay for the blue one ? What did a new dial cost ? Any trade in on the old dial ?
That's Rolex policy - you can never keep the old dial if Rolex or an AD changes it. You still have to pay the dial. That's weird but their argument is that they want to avoid replacement dials to be traded and other watches to be modified with these parts... Sure you as a seller might have a legitimate interest to do so but Rolex is protecting its stakes as much as it can. Guess they will continue as long as people buy their watches in masses
So they take something that belongs to you. Sounds like fun buying 3 dials and only having one. Don't you think it's more weird that they can mod a watch for money and you can't.
Just explained the policy - did not say that I agreed (which I do not at all). I myself would not pay for a replacement dial if I do not receive the old one...
"My grandfather just gave me this watch and I would like to have it serviced and looking new. I don't know why it does not have a dial. I got it that way. Can you put a dial on it?"
