Back up for sale with a NEW LOW PRICE...$1550 USD OBRO

Up for sale is this rare vintage mid-1950s IWC Automatic in stainless steel "Calatrava"-stye 3-piece case with original double-signed Türler dial. This elegant timepiece from International Watch Co. of Schaffhausen features the classic Pellaton-winding early auto caliber 852 under the hood, which has recently been fully overhauled by my NYC Master Watchmaker. It is in overall Excellent original condition with an extremely crisp case and comes with a 6-month movement warranty for all normal non-abusive use.

Türler is somewhat like the Tiffany's or Wempe of Switzerland, with a 130-year heritage selling watches and jewelry in the heart of Zürich. On rare occasions, you can find high quality vintage watches with their name co-branded on the dial. When you do, you've found something extra special!

The NEW asking price for this beautiful classic IWC Automatic is now a heavily discounted $1550 USD OBRO including fully insured FedEx shipping worldwide. Bank Wire is always preferred but Paypal is OK with split fees (+2% to the buyer). Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting. Please contact me at [email protected] for any inquiries.

CASE & BACK: Classic and beautifully proportioned gent's dress size, 34mm wide (not including crown) by 40mm long all-stainless steel 3-piece "Calatrava"-style case with downward sloping lugs, press on bezel and hermetic push-in back. Correct polished lug tops and bezel and satin finished sides. This case shows very little if any polish with crisp edges and angles. There are some very minor scuffs & scratches but the case and bezel are easily in Excellent+ vintage condition. The snap in caseback is in Excellent condition with only some small scratches/marks near the opening indent. The inner case and back lip do show some minor corrosion at their contact points, as is common on these non-screwed cases. All correct IWC nomenclature of the period and full serial number are present inside the caseback.

DIAL & HANDS: Lovely ivory dial with applied dagger markers is all original and Very Good with some degradation to the luminous dots, Radium-induced patina from the hands around the center and some small damage to the surface between "7" and "8". The dial also has a partially glossy texture that is pretty much impossible to photograph and I'm not certain if this is the original way the dial has aged or someone added it to preserve it at some point in the past. Most importantly, though, all the original factory printing is crisp and legible including the rare store-added Türler. Luminous-filled Alpha-style white metal hour and minute hands are Excellent with minor signs of aging, as is the sweep seconds. Age-related imperfections aside, this is a lovely and rare original dial with great vintage charm and wears very well on the wrist.

MOVEMENT: In-house Caliber 852 21-jewel full rotor movement with patented Pellaton automatic winding system with its distinctive ratcheting sound, as well as shock protection. The 1.36 million movement serial dates to circa 1956 according to the excellent "Date Your IWC" program by Marco Schönenberger. This is the second iteration of Alfred Pellaton's engineering masterpiece, which many consider one of the best mass-produced families of automatics ever manufactured. It was recently fully overhauled by my watchmaker. Therefore it is keeping very good time with strong power reserve and is guaranteed for 6-months of normal, non-abusive use. As you may know, vintage IWC parts are extremely difficult to source on the secondary market and one usually has to send the watch to Schaffhausen for a very expensive service where they will in all likelihood replace the Tritium or Radium dial with a repainted modern Luminova one. So having the movement freshly lubricated and overhauled will save you a lot of headaches, as well as big bucks!

CROWN: Early and correct water resistant push-in steel "Fish" crown shows some light wear, Excellent condition. The crown pushes in tightly to the case, winds the movement and pulls out to the non-hack time setting position exactly as it should.

CRYSTAL: Low dome acrylic crystal is super clean and shows no cracks or chips and is quite clear, Near Mint condition.

BAND: This great IWC comes on a vintage black genuine lizard strap in Excellent condition with minor signs of wear. This watch takes 18mm straps.

I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form.

This classic vintage IWC is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer. This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
