·I’d like to share a rather unusual Omega that’s been in my family for many years. It’s a full 18k gold model, visually identical to the BA 791.8887 - same beautifully woven bracelet and case shape - but what makes it different is that it has no diamond indices, even though that appears to be standard for this reference.
The watch originally belonged to my grandfather, who was one of the heads of our family’s watch boutique, which has been operating for over 125 years. While I’m not directly involved in the business myself, I’m deeply connected to its legacy and have a strong personal interest in its history - especially in rare timepieces like this one.
The caseback bears our family name as an engraving, and I’m confident the watch was never sold or circulated outside the family. I suspect it may have been a special-order piece, possibly even a one-off or part of a very limited run for select clients or specific markets.
So far, I’ve only found a single listing of this reference (BA 791.8887) on Omega’s official site, and that version does include diamond indices. However, I haven’t found any listings for this model - diamond or not - on Chrono24 or similar marketplaces, which makes me wonder how rare it actually is.
With the Extract of the Archives currently unavailable, I’d truly appreciate any insight from the community:
I’m not looking to sell the watch - it holds great sentimental and historical value. I’d simply love to better understand its background and significance.
Thanks in advance,
Bruno

- Has anyone seen this non-diamond version before?
- Were boutique or private custom orders like this common in that era?
- Could this piece be a one-off?
