So my father in law likes watches, but isn't really a watch guy. The same cannot be said for his best friend of 50 years, who has amassed a collection of hundreds of watches, but for the most part always wears a Zodiac Sea Wolf. Lately he's been selling off some of his collection, and my Father in law purchased this one from him, and then had it serviced at Donaldson's Watches in Gilbert, AZ. From what I have researched it's a pretty rare watch in this condition. It has a perfect condition oyster type expansion bracelet that isn't loose at all, countdown bezel, blued radium filled hands, etc. Most of the information I found about it was from this article: https://thespringbar.com/blogs/guides/the-zodiac-sea-wolf, which has a mention of one of our forum users, @Giff2577 who has a slightly earlier prototype. Anyway, a thread is useless without pics, so here are some (not very good) ones:
Sure! As far as I can tell this watch looks practically unworn. No box or paperwork with it, but the condition is incredible.
These are very cool watches and this one is incredible condition, don't recall ever seeing one with that bracelet. Thanks for posting!
That is a mint condition Zodiac Oyster style stretch link bracelet! This is period correct and is more collectable than the Holzer style bracelet. I believe they were made by three different manufacturers with slight variations between them. It looks great on the watch and it's great to hear that it is not loose!
Congrats on a great find! Your father in law will enjoy this one, it really is a joy to wear. Here's my slightly later version also on the original stretch bracelet
He was a little concerned that he had overpaid for it at $500 to his friend and $250 to service it. I let him know that from what I had read, what he had was a pretty rare watch, especially in its current condition and with the features it has, and likely had a bargain.
nice looking watch! Now, the better question is what else is in the collection of your Father in Law's best friend? I'm in Phoenix and would be happy to help him liquidate and save him the hassle of shipping...
I know he has a Heuer Autavia kicking around in a bin... I've seen that before. Most of his stuff isn't amazing, but I'm sure there are gems. I'm hoping to help him liquidate what he has as he needs to for some bills. His friend is in Tucson so it's less easy to do for me.
