Having the day off today, I took my daughter out for a walk in her stroller to try to get her to fall asleep for her nap. We're staying in short-term rental while our place is renovated and we are still exploring the neighborhood. This afternoon I came across a small Bulgarian grocery store, and as I'm paying for some pickles I spy a bunch of watches on the counter and hanging on the wall. Hamiltons. But the guy said he had all sorts of inventory at home. The baby was getting cranky, so I had to run, but I managed to snap some crappy pics of what he showed me. No Omegas at home, he said, but to come back and we can chat.
They all look pretty nice. You can find them all in the original catalogs here: http://vintagewatchforums.com/viewforum.php?f=21&sid=9780d216d51cb5b473948ffe51f09465 gatorcpa
I can identify the 6 tank-shaped watches. All are gold filled: Talbot (1937), Bowman (1939), Ross (1939), Linwood (1937), Lambert (1950), Fulton (1953).
Just so everyone knows, this man is a guru when it comes to American watches. Hope they are sour kosher dills. Simply the best. gatorcpa
Oh dear, now the pressure is on for me to identify the round models, too. I'll have to look those up in the catalogs as I can't always remember the names of the round models from the 1950s and 1960s.
I'd like to hear more about how he accumulated such a fine looking collection. Could these have been watches he took in pawn from customers who ran short of funds? just speculation on my part. Wondering why these are displayed in the store. With that much class showing I bet each of these watches has an interesting story behind it.
