Went to Hoi An, Vietnam and all I got to show for it is some golden weasel. Wonderful place and people. Highly recommended. Only drawback = the traffic culture. I had to sit in the back seat in taxis + close my eyes to not get a nervous breakdown.
Love the Pho soup and Vietnamese coffee in Vietnam. Used to cost $220 return from Darwin so have been a few times. Last time there I only bought some rocks for the fish tank for the costly sum of $2.40 ( which the misses could believe )
I loved all of the food. Ate at everything from street kitchens to fine restaurants. Everything was great. Fresh spring rolls fast became a starter standard order. I will never eat fried again if I can get fresh. I long for them as I write this...
Great place to vacation. Have been there and Hanoi a few times and traffic (particularly in Hanoi) can be insane. But the people are peaceful and friendly and it has gotten more tourist friendly over the past 15-20 years.
A nice thing in Hoi An was that, despite it being a tourist destination, I did not get the feeling of it being totally tourist oriented. When going to the market there were a lot of tourists - but it was not a tourist market. We went to Viet Nam because my wifes best friend, who is working within the tourist industry, told us to go - "now". Before it become as Thailand. After being there I get what she meant. There were gigantic hotel projects being built everywhere - it is only a matter of time...
Thanks for sharing the photos.... thank goodness there were no 'Boobs and Kittens' on your trip! I saw your new thread when I noticed that your 'like' count is staying well ahead of mine today, despite my double WRUW posting today! Honestly, not done to get more 'likes', it's just that I was very excited to get my 105.012 back from minor surgery a few hours ago... I'd love to go there soon, but I've never been to Thailand, either. I have a friend who has invited me to Thailand (he and his Thai wife have a home in Bangkok), and if I can swing it, he's mentioned a side-trip to Cambodia; but perhaps I should convince him that we do Viet Nam instead?
I went to Cambodia in 2012. Very nice too but if I had to/could choose I would go to Viet Nam. I would better add that there is nothing really wrong with Thailand - other than them being too eager to please tourists and in that has lost a little of my interest. A paradox - I know.
And they're neck and neck in the like count folks! This is exciting! We'll see who blinks first soon!
Oh, wow, yes, I went for a bike ride and came back to see me squirting ahead by two....... I'll have to see if Max (my friend) minds going to Viet Nam instead... And I kinda like this beauty... surely there's an Omega underneath all those.... bracelets View attachment 348121 ...she's also Vietnamese!
Funny, I tried to 'like' this one, but my mouse must have somehow malfunctioned on me ... have to try again!
Of course it's subjective, but it's a mystery to me how anyone can find this emaciated look to be attractive.
Yes - I agree - the speedmaster is a little too thin. Some here on OF seem to like the thin manual winding old chrono but me I always go for the thicker auto chronographs.
