Picked this up on eBay this summer...long story. In any case, after a long discussion with Omega, they agreed to service this without polishing or refinishing the dial. Ordinarily they, like Rolex, insist on replacing virtually everything. The hands that came with the watch were non-Omega Broad Arrow. The Omega factory has no more original Broad Arrow hands for the Ranchero so they used these faceted Dauphine hands that were used on some Rancheros & Seamasters of the time. The BoR band is one I’ve been saving for something special. The Abstract confirms that this watch was sold to the Peruvian Air Force (FAP)

While the watch was at Omega’s facility in Switzerland, I scored a set of Broad Arrow hands which I will get put on eventually. I waited 6 months to get this back. They did a movement overhaul and replaced about 9 parts excluding hands & crown. Have been wearing it for 2 days & it’s within 2” of my world clock app....

    Comments welcome.

"Ranchera"? – to mention just one issue.

The dial was already refinished, methinks...

First 2 digits (16 or 17) strategically omitted from the extract pic.

Omega could only find a sweep hand that's too short by a half mile? :cautious:

That's just some glare covering the end of the hand. If you look closely it appears to reach to the start of the indices.

Indeed. ::facepalm2:: A good example of how tricky it is to evaluate a watch on pictures...

Thanks for the comments...so short of finding an unfinished Ranchero dial would having this one redone by Omega be considered acceptable??

    Omega won’t redo your dial.

Maybe it's just me. But the 'FAP' on the back looks odd IMHO.

And I've never seen this bracelet clasp on a BOR before.

The extract would indicate the movement was delivered to the FAP. No way to know about the other parts.
The dial looks refinished and the engraving on the case back seems inconsistent with other examples.
More light could be shed on this if you could show pictures of the movement, inside the case back and the date the extract was issued.

No, they won't do in Bienne. They have a company in Pforzheim / Germany doing the job regularly.

The fact that you have the extract only means the serials match with what Omega has in their books. Ageee that the PAF engraving looks a little strange. The dial is a given. The Ranchero print is quite embarassing. Would hunt down a correct dial. The bracelet is nice though. Good luck!

Omega accepts dials for re painting. the job is done most of the time by Bethge in Germany. with widely variation of desired results...... i had that done in the 90`s for a Railmaster dial. it came back as a disaster. Omega refunded the money. have never asked them since. kind regards. achim

Yes. Bethge. I've been there and discussed some dial issues with Mr. Bethge last year. I believe they know their stuff but they don't know how collectors of vintage watches think and what they expect.
