Just back from a long service. This watch checks many boxes for me. In house movement, military heritage, chrono, date, flyback, and nice wabi sabi on this example. Surprisingly easy to read for being so cluttered. A low profile watch other WIS will understand.
A favorite of mine too... The military heritage is bit of a marketing reach, though the fly-back function was certainly a specification of the Ministère de l'Air Type 20/21s.
A modern classic... best of the 90’s. Will switch mine over to the black/red leather strap today for winter
It is a 40mm, mine is sitting on a NATO band, offset from wrist, thus looks larger than it is in the photo.
Makes sense. But the other wrist shot here still makes it look like it would appear bigger on a wrist than per say a Rolex 40mm sportwatch, which I personally love...
I have a question to that watch I Own one mYself Bit my watch has no Rede Second and also the 30second is not red. Is that possible the watch was deliverey with different hands?
After lusting for one of these for many years I finally landed one late last year. Worn the watch a lot but am finding it hard to love, which, to be honest, has come as a bit of a shock. To me it wears like a Rolex 1680 with less comfortable bracelet. I only say this ‘cos I once had a 1680 but all my current watches are bigger or smaller than the Rainbow. And I find the dial quite confusing, particularly when the white hour and minute hands are against white dial sections. This has caused me to misread the dial on several occasions, generally making me early. Which is a good thing, I suppose. Should add I have very restricted vision in one eye and corrected vision in the other, some days not sure which is which. May not be all the Flyback’s fault. Really hoping this is a watch that will come together the more I wear it. Getting a strap and trying to find an extra link for the bracelet, it is tight on me and there is no micro adjustment. Cheers. Tony
As a natural born Englishman with a longtime Aussie passport I perversely like both polarising spreads. Marmite and Vegemite. However you are right, some watches divide opinion. For me this is simply the first time I have bought a vintage watch and not been over the moon. Usually having seen many pictures and read reviews I know I like a watch. Disappointed is too strong but this may not be a keeper unless love suddenly grows on what appears thorny ground. Maybe I should try a Flightmaster instead......
I kinda like the date window actually, gives the watch a bit of character. But then I rarely use the date on my watches because, unless it is a Seiko, I pretty much can’t read it.
Wow, this is a stunning reference I have yet to see from Zenith aside from the modern example. Great presence and subtle colors.
