For all of you who knew Jose I have to forward very sad news - Jose has passed today. I have lost a good friend and the watch world has lost a great collector and kind and generous dealer. Here is a screen shot from insta: R.I.P. Erich
José was literally one of the reasons that I chose to relocate to Lisbon several years ago. I was new to the city, and his charm, humor, and extraordinary knowledge of vintage watches, Omega in particular, were magnetic. He also had one of the best vintage Omega collections in the world, and probably the best 33.3 collection. This is a very sad day for countless people around the world who knew him, and, of course, especially so for his wife and daughter. He will be sorely missed, and walking around Baixa (the central, lower commercial district of Lisbon), where José's small shop was located, will never be the same.
He was a lovely man with a great character , very knowledgeable and very interesting too. Very sad news indeed.
I never met the gentleman, but his Instagram posts were a wonderful window into his world as a vintage watch collector and dealer. We traded a few DMs about his vintage Tissot collection, and I am grateful for his photographs of timepieces that I have never seen elsewhere. I will miss him.
Damn .. there was a period before the watch bug bit me, when Lisbon was a favorite meeting destination for my company. Looks like I missed an opportunity to meet a great watch insider.
Oh no He was very friendly when I needed help on some Mido business some time ago, never got to say proper thanks.
Dammit ! His smile was a beacon in countless European Watch Fair meetings. Never far from the Bar.....Gave advice and help freely to fellow Omeganiacs. Sad Day. Kind regards. Achim
