Very sorry to hear of such a legend passing away.

Now my next book to read on my VERY short list of books I’ve read, “Flight: My Life in Mission Control.” I HATED reading growing up, I have slowly changed that about myself as I am aging and like the alpha personality biographies and autobiographies that also have a deap down human side to the individual. Last book I read was “Driven: An Autobiography” by Larry H. Miller and Doug Robinson about Larry H. Miller’s life. Fantastic read IMO especially for any fixed ops professionals in the automotive dealer world.

Edit: Just ordered “Flight: My Life in Mission Control.” ha ha. Looking forward to nighttime reading after my boys have gone to sleep.

Thank you for sharing this news regardless of it’s unfortunate nature @Vercingetorix. If not for it, I may never have heard of the man.

Over the next five years we will see many of the greats from the Golden era of space travel leave us. RIP

It doesn't feel right to "like" this post, but I also took a moment out of silent respect this morning when I read the news.
As I've mentioned in other threads, the space business has been the family business since I was a child, so I've amassed a bit of a library. I'll share some favorites when I get home from work.

Chris Kraft was there from the VERY beginning, before men were strapping them on. His book has more on the early days than anyone else's. 20190723_214520c.jpg

Most of my collection are books written by the guys who were there. Of course, I have a few others like 'The Right Stuff' and 'A Man on the Moon' because they're excellent and highly recommended. These are 3 of the best and Collins, who is always overlooked as not having walked on the moon, was probably the best writer to have flown in space.

This was an unforgettable signing and was very well attended given that it was during the Mir era of US-Russian cooperation. I'm pretty sure Leonov was there at the time (or I saw him at another event) but I don't recall why his signature isn't right next to Scott's.

And a bit of the bookshelf. Unfortunately, they're not all signed.

My copy of 'A Man on the Moon' is the 3-volume edition (signed) which is too large to fit on this shelf. Chaikin's other books are very good as well, but nowhere near as comprehensive. I won't call out which ones I didn't care for, but there are a few that are too thin on personal stories and too thick on "inspiration." 'Kosmos' and 'Full Moon' make for really stunning large-format coffee table books.
