Quick take - jump on the SS Sub?

I need some quick persuasion - I have a chance to get a brand new black SS Sub with date. Not an ideal time (I’ve been good to myself this year), but not impossible. I should be more excited than I am but I think that’s more guilt than a true lack of interest talking.

I think I’m discounting how unusual it is to have this fall in my lap, so give me your quick take - jump?

What are your intentions with the watch? Buy to flip or buy and wear it?

Don’t let FOMO (fear of missing out) force your hand at something you won’t enjoy. But if it is at a good price and you know you can flip it for a little more to go towards a watch you actually want to wear and enjoy I think that’s ok as well.

    Just my two cents...

Intention is to buy. Not paying more than list. Mind not made up.

    Thx!

Same thing happened to me a few months ago. Went to the AD to resize my band and was told a SS Sub was in stock and I can purchase it now for retail price and no mark up. Decided to go for it and have not regretted it since. I thought it would be a heavy watch and not as comfortable for daily wear ( My daily wear the moon watch) but wore it as a daily wearer for few weeks and its very comfortable as well. The adjustable bracelet comes in real handy as well. I would say go for it if it’s retail price and does not have a crazy markup

If you can get it for MSRP, get it.

Thanks for the feedback - I’m gonna get it. In the clear light of day, it’s a no-brainer.

I’m going to go against the crowd here and say no. You obviously are not totally in love from your initial post. Why let the FOMO syndrome get you and fork out $10k. You have loads of nice watches. Unless you want to flip it (and what black subs actually really go for is debatable), I’d leave it if it doesn’t float your boat fully.

I mostly agree but for what it’s worth the MSRP should be $8500. A long way from the 4K of 10+ years ago but certainly a watch that will never go out of style. That being said for a little more you could get a 16110 for 6k and a Speedmaster 3590.50 for $3500. Two good watches for $9500 versus one for $8500

I didn’t know the mrsp, but point being that if you don’t love it then splashing out 8.5k just because it’s there may be a mistake.

No doubt it’s a lovely watch however and a good catch from an AD if you like it.

I bought it (delivers next week), but not because it was there. I just needed to not decline this purchase on general principle/guilt. Had a nice long talk with my wife and pulled the trigger, fully happy and fully excited. She tends to straighten out my gumbo of greed and guilt and confusion.

Good for you. Equally, the way Rolex is if it helps you get others then equally good. Enjoy, and post some pics up.

Ahh, I remember unboxing my GMT Master 2 and putting that chunk of metallic goodness on my wrist. ENJOY!

Excellent decision. I'm a big longtime vintage Rolex lover/hobbyist, but the one and only modern Rolex I have is the Sub Date 116610. It's beautiful, very well balanced, rugged and iconic. On top of everything else, there is no brand on the planet that holds its resale value like Rolex. Congrats.
