I have an old Omega Seamaster (from the dial) from my father. I'm assuming it's real but would like to confirm it and if anyone can share any other info or background on the watch or movement, it would be very much appreciated!

On a side note.. how much would it cost to restore this watch given the condition it's in? My guess is some areas like the bracelet where the gold plating is scraped off isn't restorable but hoping I'm wrong or there are other alternatives!

I could be wrong (as I’m not an expert) but the movement doesn’t look right to me

Movement and watch are from 1977 approx.

Someone got carried away with the linear brushing of almost the entire watch and band.
I'm afraid irreparable damage has been perpetrated.

Not a valuable piece to collectors. The movement may be serviceable but I'm afraid that overall, it would cost a fortune to restore.

I would hold it fondly as a family heirloom, feel a closeness to your father as you look at it and then......put it back in the drawer.

Thanks for the link! I thought it was the exact same watch at first then noticed the "automatic" underneath "Seamaster" as opposed to under "Omega" in mine. Also if the number on the movement is the caliber, I wonder what the difference is between the 1022 and 1020

Appreciate the info! I was hoping to restore it to a semi-decent condition or find a replacement bracelet for the purpose of wearing it myself on occasion (rather than try to sell it)

17 jewels verses 23 jewels, the 1020 was used in Constellations, according to quick research.

It would require a new crystal, movement service and new strap or band but that case condition is a problem and I don't feel would ever stand up to any moisture.

This would be an investment in memories, not a financially rewarding one.

Just get the movement serviced and the case and bracelet cleaned but don't get it polished (any more than it is).
The integrated bracelet may be hard to find, so if it's servicable just wear it and enjoy it.
It's a genuine worn and loved watch and not all things have to be pristine and tarted up to be loved (look at some of us).

The crystal is an original Ω and should come up like new with some Polywatch or similar treatment.

I like it. Doesn’t someone make straps for these? A service, clean and crystal polishing and I’d rock it on dark brown leather.

Jiminoz is my mentor and I have done well heeding his advice.
I recommend you do the same.

Thanks for all the feedback and advice all! Will definitely look into getting the movement serviced and maybe look into a different strap.

I agree and my intent was to wear this, not sell, so I wasn't looking to restore it to a pristine condition. The bracelet is just a bit tight and the spring bars look like they'll break soon. I kinda like the time-worn look and feel of it - the dings and dents on the case gives it some character and reminds me where it came from.
