Howdy fellow enthusiasts... So I came across this at a local auction house, and I've been told it has a lot of interest... (which is great given I'm yet to a. get a speedie and b. I'm slightly skeptical of this), ha! So it's claimed to be a 1970, -69 case back, dial looks to be -69 through -71. Looking at the movement it dates to a 1972-1973. The 1039 bracelet whilst not impossible, is unlikely from factory. It's estimated to go to 2-3k Australian which. What are your thoughts?
Serial dates it to early 1971. Dial and hands are either in exceptional condition or have been relumed. In any event, it's going to sell for way more than $2k--$3k AUD.
Is it a pre-moon caseback or straight writing? Either way it's in the correct range for a DNN and on a 1039 I'd expect it to bring US 5-5.5k as long as it had enough exposure to the market
She's got the Hippocampus caseback... Damn, here I was hoping to get into the game with a bargain. The saving and waiting continues :-(
The auction aint over til it's over.... why not register and keep an eye on it? The worst that happens is you don't get it but you've had a fun day
Yeah that's a good point, I threw in $1600 for the sake of being cheeky and it's well passed that point already.
I saw and enquired on this watch as well. It has some nasty damage on the lower left lug. I decided to pass on it.
I'm not too sure what the exchange rate is with the AUD at the moment but I'm guessing that estimate just barely covers the bracelet. Hammer will be double the lower end ... maybe more.
Good call jimmyd13! the hammer price was $6000Au, then add about 26% for the buyers premium. There were only two absentee bidders, nothing from the floor
£4600 or £5950 .... yeah, that seems fine given the damage. Clean, service and leave the rest as it is for a very reliable daily wearer.
I nearly raised it to $6500 (~AUD8000 total), but thought against it - would have like the dial to be stepped and i think i would have gone for it . The 1039 looked very nice, with (10ish) stretch links, but no picture of the inside of the clasp. i have some more photos if anyone would like it.
