The outer faces of the stretch links on this 1961 7912 look fine (5 one side, 3 the other), but the inner faces looks like the stretch links are missing the sliding plate seen on later 7912's and 1039's etc. Where the stretch link spring has broken I have seen some stretch links where the sliding plate has been removed and the link compressed with pliers to close it as a bodged repair; however, this results in an ugly looking link which is much skinnier than normal (not the case here). You can see that the stretch links are present i.e. they have not all been replaced by regular non-stretch links. Does this look like a transitional 7912 with non-serviceable stretch link springs?

    Any help appreciated!

You r absolutely right the stretched one are tempered using pliers . I have never seen one without the stretched links, and I have quite a few of them. Regards

Thanks, in 1961 both 7077 and 7912's were offered, which makes me think this is a transitional 7912, as it looks correct apart from the non-serviceable stretch links.

Is that a definite confirmation that early 7912's had non-serviceable stretch links?

Yes, the transitional 7077/7912 had non-serviceable stretch links. I guess Omega soon realised the error of their ways and designed the removable links we know and love (hate?) today. I've had a couple like this and all are stamped '61.

If they made it without the stretch links then why is bracelet design different from where it is suppose to have the stretched links?

It would seem that the first version of the 7912 had the stretch links but there was no sliding cover to allow the springs to be replaced. Omega realised that this was an issue and then changed the design after 1961 to include the sliding covers
