Hi, I found this Heuer AUTAVIA 2446 C from an individual who claimed the watch was purchased from Germany about 15 years ago. I noticed the serial number on the watch does not match Autavia Ref table from on the dash. The table suggests ref number 108xxx to 109xxx on 2446C snap back C-1. But this watch has a 129800 serial number and a 2446 C engraving on the other side. What is your opinion on this dial and case configuration? Does this discrepancy suggest the watch is a re cased? Any comment or information will be extremely helpful for me. Thank you so much in advance.
The serial number is higher than expected as you have 1st execution hands and dial . The serial number looks engraved whilst my 1st execution(1106x) is stamped but that maybe ok?. Is the case back plain? See here for guide http://thoughts.onthedash.com/thoughts/autavia-early-in-depth/ I would also post your question on the heuer forum
Thanks for your recommendation. I will try to look for the answer there as well. The case back has engraving of "stainless steel chronograph water proof guaranteed 330 ft under water" Here is the Pix. Based on http://thoughts.onthedash.com/thoughts/autavia-early-in-depth/, the 1st execution serial range is 108xxx-145xxx, but the ref table suggests 108xxx to 109xxx. Does the table implies maybe less than 2000 of 2446 C were made?
the 108xxx - 109xxx is not the entirety of production...only the known samples at the time the table was created. It hasn't been updated in a long time. 129xxx is a good serial number, although most I have seen are earlier.
The watch is not perfect, a couple of missing lume and faded bezel. But it runs well and I like this dial a lot. So probably is a keeper for me but I still hope the case is within reasonable range.
CajinTiger is correct serial entries have not been updated! Correct smooth pushers, correct early execution case back, correct dial and hands, correct bezel with smaller teeth, early execution case will only fit this bezel. Boxes checked on this one, enjoy and nice example. Dan
Thank You OmegaCal66, CajunTiger & Dan for you comments. What book would you guys recommend for Heuer Chronograph? Anything similar or equivalent to the "moonwatch only" for the speedies?
