Greetings all, I'm a very recent member here, a fellow member on military watch ressource forum got me interested in UG chronographs and I have now come across an early aero-compax. The son or grand son of the original owner says it dates back to 1940-1941. dial and case original in near perfect condition, but hands have gotten an ugly relume at some point back and carry a bit of (ugly) corrosion, and it's quite small -- at 33mm, with cal. 283. The owner says it's because it's an earlier model. I'm a woman and so for me it's a great size but I know the "market" out there places less value on smaller watches. He's asking for 2000 euros -- is that too much or does it sound about right? Thanks for your guidance, and thanks for a great forum-- those threads on the 1960s UGs are fantastic. Not my price range though. Best regards, S
With out pictures it would be very hard to tell or comment. Would you mind posting some pictures. I am sure OF members will be more than happy to help.
Thanks much, unfortunately the seller doesn't want me to post his pictures -- and he now says he's waiting for a Swiss trader to confirm a purchase. So it looks a bit toast. Maybe I was too polite asking for permission to post. Still it might helpful to know, even if it sounds theoretical, whether it's conceivable for a 33mm example to fetch 2000 euros... I guess you'd say it depends how nice the patina looks etc etc -which goes back to the question of the pics. We'll see, if his other deals fall through maybe he'll change his mind. Best regards
Talking about which, here's a bigger one for 2,300 - but isn't it a redial? http://www.ebay.fr/itm/UNIVERSAL-GE...992069?hash=item3f58eee9c5:g:6l4AAOSw8-tWX0EJPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Thanks and best regards
Yep redial. Also the original watch with out pictures I think it is hard for anyone to give comments. The condition of the watch and many other little potential nuances could only be best spotted when pictures of the dial, case and movements are given.
Looks weird. I have never seen a dial like that on an aero. I would say that there is a good chance it is a redial.
Hi, Welcome on the forum. Maybe you can post link to the seller website if he has one? I would find that strange if a seller told me not to discuss the watch on a watch collector forum...
Dial case movement looks good to me, hour and minute hands are a bit tired but looks original (but potentially relumed a bit untidily once in the past?)
Thanks so much -- and do you think at 33mm it could be worth 2000 euros? (I always thought smaller sizes ought to be priced lower).
For a 37mm+ for a tired dial (I have one), i paid about that price (may be 5% higher) but for a 33mm I don't really have a clue. Maybe others can comment. I am happy to have got my aero though.
Someone now telling me he thinks it's been redialed a long time ago. I'm wondering if the space is too narrow above "Universal" and below "Aero-compax" inscriptions. Again, very grateful for your thoughts. Best regards, S
Thanks so much! seems like I'm finding a couple other UG chronos with small calibers (281 in this instance) and which have similarly tight inscriptions. I'm now wondering if it might be due to smaller dial, and therefore more crowded with those smaller calibers.
