    Hello All!

I am new to the forum, as I have just recently had the means to begin collecting some more serious watches. Until recently, I have only purchased newer watches from the manufacturer or slightly used watches off ebay and Reddit. I have always loved the simple elegance of classic watches, and I have loved Omegas for years. I was excited to find a good deal on a vintage Omega from a reliable seller the other day, and was hoping I could perhaps get some more information from the knowledgeable folks over here.

The seller described the watch as a "simple gp date, white sunburst 1964" The ref. is 132.019, with a manual wind cal 611 movement. The seller said that the crown was a replacement from some point, which I was not bothered by at this price point, but the watch is missing its sweeping seconds hand. The watch is running and keeping decent time over a 24 hour period from what I can tell, but I plan to take it to be serviced and I hope to maybe be able to find a sweeping seconds hand for the watchmaker to replace. I am wondering if you folks have any additional information about the watch, as it does not seem to belong to the traditional lines of omegas from this period (i.e. seamaster, geneve etc..) as well as some servicing and restoration advice for a newbie. I want to keep the original patina and such, and I wouldn't mind sourcing the original crown at some point as well.

I am attaching pictures in the hopes that they will be helpful for everyone, and I appreciate the wealth of information on the forum. RSZCmf9.jpg rY4lLYY.jpg DZMTlaf.jpg zd58Si2.jpg yVX4NIf.jpg O7JBLoT.jpg

Thank you for the resource and your thoughts. I thought that it looked similar the Geneve line, but I wasn't sure on that. I did end up purchasing the watch as it was just under $100 and the seller had a lot of good feedback on ebay and Reddit r/watchexchange. I knew that I would need to put money into service and such, so I thought that it might be worth the gamble at this price as a first vintage piece, and my first Omega as well.

Hi @gmunsey and welcome to the forum! Before you part with your cold hard cash on this watch, I would encourage you to slow down and take time to learn about what collectors value in a vintage piece. The right vintage watch for you has been waiting decades for you to find it. There is no need to rush.

Take some time to read the advice freely available on this forum. To get you started, read these threads:

Then take some time to review this thread to see what other collectors collect: https://omegaforums.net/threads/wruw-today.567/

After you have read through some of those threads, go back and take a look at the watch above. I think you'll come to the conclusion that you can find other examples in better shape for your budget.

I appreciate your warm welcome! I very much agree that I have a lot to learn, and I hope to begin dissecting the wealth of information available on the forum in the coming weeks. I appreciate you linking those threads to start as I begin navigating the forum and I will certainly take a look at those. I like your anecdote about having patience in finding the right piece for me.

    best,

I was able to get this watch just under $100 and I felt comfortable in this area knowing that there would be service costs and some potential issues along the way. Thank you for your input!
