    Hi,

I don't normally post here as I tend to spend more time on forums discussing other brands. I recently bought a Speedmaster from 1967 and I wanted to know if it was a relume or not. I have searched and searched and read some articles on here but I felt the best was to get an answer would be to post some pictures and get opinions.

    So what's people opinions:

I am aware the Bezel, Crown and bracelet are not original. That's why I didn't ask about them.

Can you elaborate on the relume?

If I zoom on your pictures, index look like they were refinished with toothpaste.... uneven, irregular...

Afaik a pretty good sign for "relumed" as the old Tritium would not glow anymore. But I am not the expert here...

I think people can be too quick to declare a relume when it has this consistency. Admittedly, some relumes look like this, but I think it's possible that on occasion it's original. Unfortunately it's hard to call either way from photos.

Is there a 'halo' or wet looking effect around any of the markers?

When charged under a bright light or camera flash, does it glow evenly? Is this glow feint, only visible in the dark?

It's absolutely impossible to be categoric based on these pictures - they just aren't clear enough. Even then you can never be 100% sure. Based on these pics tho I would not be quick to cry 'toothpaste'... I think it looks more or less OK. Can you take higher resolution in focus pics?

I've seen a lot of -67s with blobby, puffy lume that I think were original. I also think this one looks OK, but the obvious signs of service (new bezel etc) could mean it's relumed. Can we get a shot of the lume in the dark?

25sec is a long time for not being relumed. Must have been a save queen for all the years, which does not fit to the service replacements.

I dunno, depends how good your eyes are. Quite a few of my 60's tritium watches glow for around 30 seconds.

No wet marks it's glows feint. I've not tested it in the light but I've never noticed it during the day. It only works if I shine a light on it for a sustained period of time.

Here's a 69 dial with no relume. Out of curiosity I just counted and it glows around 30 secs

That is after a quick blast of light.

This one is after holding a light on it for much longer.

The room looks lighter than it is in these pictures.

Now that is too much of a glow for old tritium.

So in reality the room was lighter than it appears in your pictures?

Hmm, that is too bright for old tritium. After I've charged mine, the room needs to be almost dark to see it.
