Question about OEM Speedmaster display backs

For anyone that knows, or has tinkered with these: are the sapphire crystals glued into the ring, or press/friction fit? I assume there is a lip under the crystal which keeps it from dropping into the movement. Is there a gasket too? If you crack the crystal, can you just replace that, or do you have to purchase the entire display back? Thanks for any insights.
