Question about an out-of-production SM 300M Quartz

I've been enjoying reading the forum and was hoping you could share some knowledge with me. My first Omega was the 2223.80.00 Seamaster 300M Quartz, 38mm, and I've recently upgraded to a 42mm PO. (And am currently in the dreamy afterglow of that purchase...)

As I understand it, the 2223.80.00 is no longer in production. And I know it's a cheaper model, and perhaps not as desirable as a co-axial - and, well, SMALL - but would it being "out of print", so to speak, negatively or positively impact its resale value? Not planning on selling, just was curious to know what I'd be up against should I decide to part with it. Thanks for any help!

I think being NLA may actually be supporting the watch's resale value, because there are still plenty of folks who love the look but insist on quartz. But forget asking prices. Look at Ebay completed listings for that model to see where the street price is. If it helps you any, I bought one almost a year ago in pristine condition with full kit for $1650.

Appreciate the insights. Mine came new, box and paperwork for 1657.50USD on January of 2012. At least it doesn't seem to have depreciated too much.

True, not much from what you paid for it. MSRP was considerably higher. I also think it could depend on how much the buyer knows about the model. When I bought, I was looking for a recent one with red script like yours - better lume and less chance the watch needed full service. One from the late '90s might be priced like Prange's. Then there's condition, box & docs, etc. I guess you'll find out for sure if/when you decide to sell.

Mine is from 1998 or so. Near mint. They're out there. Patience is the key here.

The less you spend on one,the more you can spend on something else.Maybe a Speedmaster, an Aqua Terra, or (going off on a tangent here), a S/A TRP or Operator.

I’d like to bump this thread, if I may.

Seeing this thread is now 4-5 years old, I’ve noticed that these models are actually fetching more than I paid retail in 2012. I know that asking prices aren’t always the true selling prices..but I’d have never thought at the time that a quartz would appreciate..?

Could anyone enlighten me why this specific model would have increased?

Maybe because Omega stop making them and some people like the simplicity (and thinness) of a quartz over an automatic.

They fill a niche in the Omega market, where people looking for a dependable, recognisable model will struggle to find anything in the line-up. Add to that the ever increasing prices of new Omegas...

I am out of touch with quartz these days - are Omega still producing quartz editions?

Omega stopped Quartz a few years ago, I enjoy my Quartz bond. Be patient, prices will be coming down. Check out the Omegamatic Seamaster too.

They do seem to be phasing out quartz options, particularly in the full size men's lines. The latest SMP doesn't AFAIK have a quartz version and other than the X-33 type pieces many other quartz options seems to have been discontinued. I would imagine that the off the shelf ETA quartz powered pieces of the past 40 years don't sit too well with their recent aspirations of a move towards more up market in house pieces across the board. There may still be a place for quartz movements in smaller ladies pieces going forward maybe.
