I want to send a couple of slabs of beer to my colleagues in Queensland and would appreciate any recommendations on a good brand. I’m not so stupid as to gift them VB, and they’re unlikely to be “beer snobs” so Is XXXX the way to? Or can anyone make any better suggestions?
    Cheers!

I'm an American, but spent a little time in Queensland. It seemed to me that XXXX is the standard beer there. I don't think you'd insult anyone by sending a few cases their way.

I'm sure you could find a box of varieties on Booze Bud.

My DIL got me the Advent Calendar selection. 25 various beers leading up to Christmas, it's a good selection, couple of duds but mostly great summer beers/lagers/ales.

XXXX wouldn't offend them but it would offend their taste buds.

You could try looking at Dan Murphy's web site for some inspiration. Personally, I rather like the James Squire beers (that's just in case you were tempted to send another slab to Queensland)

Great Northern is very popular up here in Cairns and North Queensland.
Down south you're better of with XXXX Gold. And make that stubbies.

Aye, I'll second the Coopers Pale Ale.
Best stored on their side in the fridge and gently rolled before opening to stir up the gunk that gives it that summer flavour.

We spent most of the OZ winter in Kuranda, near Cairns, visiting my daughter and family. We spent many pleasant afternoons on the deck quaffing BOTH Great Northern and XXXX.

We're now back in our winter near Washington DC, awaiting the Christmas arrival of daughter and family. We'll be enjoying two beers from Pennsylvania - Yuengling (of Pottstown) and Troeggs (of Hershey).

    Cheers to all,
    Morseman

Unfortunately being Queenslanders any attempt to introduce some class with the offer of a quality beer will be met with derision, XXXX and Great Northern are a safe if somewhat bland bet :)

Any of you Queenslanders anywhere near Eisvold? My maternal grandfather was born there back in the 1890s, in the proverbial tar-paper shack. I have an old photo of the (very dour looking) family standing outside said shack with a particularly mangy dog.....the family returned to Scotland in 1905 or so, but my grandfather was later interviewed by a Brisbane radio station in 1946 and mentioned his heritage.

    Yuengling is made in Pottsville.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. Enjoy.

You’re right, of course - PottsVILLE for Yuengling. Our visitors from Queensland seem to prefer it over Troeggs, my favorite. BTW there is over an 80 degree difference in temperature today between here and their home in QLD.

    Best wishes to all!
