Quartz 1345 movement - stuck and pulsating seconds hand...

I recently purchased an attractive 1978 DayDate quartz watch with a 1345 movement. When I took it out of the box I noticed the seconds hand was 'pulsating' back and forward at 1 pulse per second. Upon playing around with setting the time, the hand started moving normally. It ran successfully for about half an hour before the second hand jammed again at 35s. Replaced the battery and the issue happened again - it jammed at 3 seconds.

It's a lovely watch and I'd like to keep it, but if parts for the movement aren't availble, like the stepper motor may not be available.

Any thoughts as to what the issue may be and how it could be resolved.

Almost impossible to diagnose.

Your best option would be to take it to a watchmaker who is competent and equipped to assess/test/repair a quartz movement.

Where on the planet are you located?

I'm in Melbourne, Australia.

Well you won't be able to do anything for a while, looks like our lockdown will be extended 🙁.

You have two options:

Take it to Omega in Collins Street, they will only perform a full service if they are able to (movement may be obsolete). The cost of a service will far out weigh the value of the watch.

Try one of the watchmakers in the city when we are allowed to get out of the house. Ekselman in Elizabeth Street, Watch Gallery (cnr Lt Collins/Elizabeth), Watch Lab.

Good luck with it.

PS: Remove the battery until you can get it looked at.
