Not sure what currency they are referring to but maybe they just added an extra 0 by mistake in the valuation, particularly with the mottled dial. That said, an argument can be made that the 1680/8 and 16808 references, which seem to be rare, are way undervalued compared to vintage steel Subs.

I've seen dealers asking upto ~ US$95K for the 1680/8 which I felt was a little optimistic... but this is a whole other level of optimism. Their website suggests they're a legit NYC auction house. Even with big-city-slicker premium it seems crazy high. I wonder if it's some sort of strategy to goose an upcoming auction.

Curiously, the rare blue dial 16808 is going for similar money to a red 1680. While I know a YG Sub might spend most its life in a safe, so does a red 1680 these days.

Think of it another way. How many gold Subs were sold in the '60's and '70's vs. in steel? 1 to 1000? [Just a guess.] That is where the prices seem too low on the gold Subs (but I am talking about prices at $25-35k, which in my mind is the market.

Yes, around 30K for a black one and maybe up to 50K for a nice faded or tropical one...

not even close. divide that by 10 and that's what an average one goes for. tropical can be quite a bit more, but not $50k.

Maybe they are quoting Hong Kong dollars which translates into right around $32K USD LOL
