Have been talking to the seller about this set on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232071901066

Looking closely at the pictures, the hang tag has a reference for an explorer II, and serial number to match the guarantee.

Then the service paperwork from roles has another reference, and another serial number...

Put together inaccurate set, or am I missing something?

Thanks chaps.

Well, at least he never says the box & paperwork is original to the watch. 馃槜 馃檮

Seller says it's as he bought it in 1987.

Have asked him to check case number between lugs.

Think this is one to walk away from...

I'd too ... I mean it's not that those are really scarce...

It is a nice looking watch, though... I have a weak spot for those @ 34mm

Get them while they are still off the radar

I don't put much weight on hand written papers, I'd walk away....these should be punched serial.

Good idea. These are pretty common watches, wait for the right one to pop.

To close this off, asked the seller to check the numbers between the lugs.

He said he wasn't able to, and there was no point as the match the paperwork...

Running away.

Wow, that just about sums it up. As a Rolex enthusiast, that is the first order of business, confirming the serial number btwn the lugs.

Yeah... Have read quite a lot about the "handwritten" paperwork.

Essentially not worth the paper it's printed on.

This guy wants 拢1500 for the set, which doesn't actually appear to be a set, and with damage to the dial at 11 o'clock.

The Rolex game may be too weird/expensive for me to play in.
