路Greetings everyone!
Just recently joined as a member, but have been reading TONS on this forum the past few months (I frequent watchuseek, but thought a dedicated forum would be more helpful), and needless to say, I think I'm going to bite the bullet on my first Omega.
I'll admit, I haven't known much about the brand until I started reading up here and watching YouTube videos (mainly Watchfinder & Co. and Horology House - love their content). But after hearing about the company and its history, I fell in love with the Speedmaster.
Just for reference, I currently switch between two main watches, a Pam and my Tag Calibre 5, (please don't flame me for wearing a Tag 馃榾 haha!). I've always been into cars since I was young, and I find the racing heritage behind certain watches very appealing.
I'd say I pick up the Tag 90% of the time, mostly because of its automatic movement, and this is the route I've decided I'll go with my first Omega. I wanted to get a taste of the brand first without dropping a significant amount (at or around $2k), and ended up reading tons of threads regarding the Speedy Reduced...
...and how 90% of the threads stated to stay away from it (some because of people suggesting the Speedy Professional is the only way to go, while others stated the movement is inferior due to the piggyback movement and high service costs).
Nevertheless, after digging around more, I came across a Speedy that was highly recommended -
The Speedy Date 3210.50
My question is this - is this still a Speedmaster you can recommend today in 2019? It seems to check off all the boxes for me - automatic with a much more solid movement than the Speedy Reduced, within budget, correct size, has that indistinguishable look that Speedy's have.
And if it is, is there anything in particular I should be looking for with this Omega when making my first purchase? The best prices I've seen for them are currently on Ebay from Japanese sellers, which I've read many people have bought from before without issues.
Are there any other Speedy recommendations you might have for me in regards to my first Omega?
I look forward to all the information I'll learn in this forum!
And here's a wrist shot of my current daily driver...which hopefully soon, will be replaced with a Speedy!
