Sorry not a watch to be seen and little in the way of photography. One hundred and twenty five years ago the Forth Rail Bridge opened and still in service - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forth_Bridge An old watercolour from my small collection, wartime defences.
You have a right to be proud, Stuart! However, I imagine your bridge had light use in Scotland....... Whereas, our Eads bridge has been in continuous use since 1874 and carries mass transit, rails, etc. for 141 years! Now some bloke from Italy is going to top us by 2000 years with some Roman pile of rocks. Slainte', my friend!
Technically an American, but we'll claim him when he's doing good things in the press. From Wikipedia Born Mel Colm-Cille Gerard Gibson (1956-01-03) January 3, 1956 (age 59) Peekskill, New York, U.S.
That would be Ponte Vecchio in Florence, built around 1300 I think. And you can even buy watches on it!
Great photo! Was a triumph of the age when it was built and is still awesome. But do you ever get done with all that endless painting? "It's like painting the Forth Bridge."
Recently re coated and now an expected 20/25 years before it requires a bit of a touch up. http://www.forth-bridges.co.uk/forth-bridge/history/restoring-the-bridge.html
The latest, we just can't stop, truth be told the first road crossing was supposedly falling apart hence the need for a replacement. It now looks as if the problems may not have been as bad and its" lifespan has been extended The longest three tower cable-stayed bridge in the world. http://www.transportscotland.gov.uk/project/forth-replacement-crossing
We took the train over the Forth Bridge in 2008. There is a more recent concrete bridge over the River Forth, that is nearby. The rail bridge is going to outlast the modern concrete one by a long time! The Ponte Vecchio. Ah yes! Remember it well. We were there in 2012. One could spend a day there, admiring the selection in all the jewellery store windows. My lady fell in love with a hand-made sterling silver candy dish in a store, there.
