This evening (GMT), Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II has become the longest reigning monarch of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, surpassing her great, great grandmother, Queen Victoria, having reigned for 23,226 days (approx 63 years and 7 months)

Watching the coverage on the 10 o'clock news makes me realise how proud I am to be British.

Is that part of the reason that she is staying on for so long?

It's going to be very strange hearing "God save the King" when Charles takes over one day, and criminals staying at "his" majesty's pleasure.

Even James Bond in his entire service since Sean Connery has been on "her majesty's secret service" I just don't know that Bond would ever say "for king and country", Charles just doesn't seem the type you'd risk getting shot for.

Had the pleasure of meeting HRH Prince Philip twice in his capacities as honorary Air Commodore of my (now disbanded) RAF Squadron. Engaging, interesting, and full of brilliant one-liners.
