It has been 3 years, 3 satisfying years as WIS, watch enthusiast, watch collector whatever you name it. On those 3 years, I could recall several milestones that I could cherish and sometimes still could feel its exciting moment, like: Sept 2012 buying my first nice watch which coincidentally an Omega watch Oct 2012 joining this magnificent forum Apr 2013 buying my first all gold watch. A rose gold Connie Deluxe that I cherished until now Jun 2013 my first (and only...) Speedy cal 321 arrived Jul 2013 visiting Omega museum Oct 2013 reaching 3000 posts in this forum Feb 2014 my first international GTG ......and now just recently I reached another significant milestone: I gave my watch to my son as heirloom watch !!!! Little background, my eldest son is keen supporter of my watches hobby. He appreciates mechanical watch and understand the beauty of classic and vintage things. Sometimes he borrowed my watches for his special occasion. Recently he just got accepted at Medical School in Jakarta. So when he celebrated his birthday last month, I give him one of my watch collection to him. The special watch of choice? Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. A modern 3570.50 to suit his lifestyle. He immediately visited local watchmaker to suit the bracelet to his wrist size and proudly wear it. I have asked him to keep it well and pass it to his son/daughter when the time come. A worthy milestone in my WIS years and a new tradition in my family. Proud father and Speedy owners The 3570.50 has passed to its new owner Cheers H
Congrats H!! That is a significant milestone indeed. Med school is a arduous journey but I'm sure he'll be equal to the task, with the Speedy by his side.
Congratulations on your sons acceptance to Med school that is a fantastic achievement. I am going to ask my dad if he would like one of my watches when I visit him next week. I am not sure he will accept it as he is not really interested in watches, as long as they tell the time he is happy, but I think every man should have a nice watch.
That would have to be either the Movado doctor's watch...or something newer: the Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition.
It's not that simple. So many interesting pulsometers out there, and so little time/money. But if one of mine gets through medical school, I'll pass this along... reluctantly.
Nice job Dad !!!! I will have this same pleasure on Dec 12, when my eldest son graduates from college. I'm debating whether to gift him my TinTin, or a standard moonwatch.
Great story and good father. My father gave me a pat on the back and said "well done" when I got into Med school. Seemed good enough at the time, but 1975 Speedy would have been pretty special too
Thanks N, I admit my undergraduate engineering experience was walk in the park compare to med school demanding curriculum, that's why a watch with proven performance in demanding environment should be a worthy companion. Thanks G. It would be sometimes before I worry about that (10 years to complete specialization), but yeah some chronograph with 'base pulsation' would be great. Well at least I have a new target list for hunting
Wow.....couldn't agree more..those are worthy contender.... That Angelus pulsometer is pretty sick .I should start researching before the prices shooting to the moon
Thanks Kyle........you are one of my respected enabler Thanks H, yes I am quite mad at the beginning.......with many noobie tax need to be paid . But it was worth every penny. ps: I am looking at your collection with envy now
Hear...hear, it seems we went through similar experience mate. I wouldn't mind a mcQueen Rolex Explorer that just discontinued when I enter my engineering school. (I could imagine they must be heavily discounted at the time, and my father is a Rolex fan)
