Promotion or Reduction

Hi all. Picked up a 42mm PO over the weekend. In a dealers window marked at £620 under retail. The assistant described it as being 'on promotion '.
Couple of days later noticed a couple of light marks on the case and one on the bezel. To be fair they are very light marks. I only noticed the one on the bezel in bright sunlight. The sort of thing I might make myself after a few weeks. But for the money I'd rather I'd marked it than it be already marked. I've spoken with the dealer who has now advised be the watch was reduced because of the marks. This wasn't mentioned when I bought it.
I'm feeling a little bit annoyed that I wasn't told. That in fact I was told they were on promotion rather that having been reduced due to being shop soiled.
They are sourcing a similar ex-display model from another shop this time apparently with an unmarked bezel but other signs of light use.
Won't be in store until the weekend. Gives me time to weigh up my options.
Any advice on what my options are and what I should be pushing for?

Thanks.

I get what you are feeling. I think you are trying to rationalize why you should not feel so bad; that you would have scuff it anyways. But back of your mind you are think I may not scuff and I get to enjoy my "new" watch longer before any damage made. Since it sounds like the dealer will let you pick between the two not-so-pristine watches I would see if that other is better and that would satisfy you. If not, given that the seller did not give you a full disclosure, I think you can make a reasonable demand for additional discount, say another 100-200.

But if all fails, just let it go and enjoy the watch. Sounds like you still got a good/fair deal.

I will try to put up a photo at some point. It has to be fairly sunny to be visible and it wasn't before I left home this morning. I've also promised not to wear it between speaking with the dealer and taking it back at the weekend so it not with me tight now.
Not entirely convinced however that the photo makes much difference. Both the dealer and I know it's marked. They knew before there sold it but chose not to tell me. I noticed afterwards contacted them and they acknowledged the issue. Really it's the not telling me bit I find a bit underhand. It's the deception or at best lack of care that's the issue.

I would be banging on the door for a refund!

Banging on the door and actually getting a refund are two different things! I personally think they have pulled your pants down with the non-disclosure. £620 is a crap discount too! You can get that at any AD!

I think it's total BS. "On promotion" is completely different than discounted because of damage. Whether the damage is significant or not, that doesn't change that they deceived you.

I'd ask for a refund and buy the watch at a dealer that can be trusted. Finding a discount better than that should be easy too.

(That said, you'll probably find little marks on lots of watches that have been handled by customers)

I would demand a full refund. Then purchase it from a trustworthy AD. Not much of a discount anyway considering it's marked

Hello again. Thanks for the input. Had a bit of a think as I was a bit on the fence with this. Finally the idea of the shop not being entirely transparent tipped it for me. Went back yesterday evening and claimed a refund. They where were nice which of course being a bit British about these things made me feel a bit guilty in spite of not having done anything wrong. So time to go shopping agin. Thanks again.
