Problem with Speedy 321

So I just purchased a Speedy 321. I wind it and set it. Everything worked. I try the chrono and the second hand and minute hand for the chrono do nothing. If I leave it running, the hour hand does work. If I lightly tap it on the right side on my thigh, the second hand will move. Not like ticking move but just from the light tapping. Then if I click the chrono top pusher to stop the chrono, I can use the reset pusher to reset everything fine. The OB told me it would need to go to Bienne and it will take 8-12 months. I was so excited for my new 321……

I have the watch all boxed back to send back to the seller. But it was weird. The watch brand new. Came in the coffin with every piece of protective tape.

So you purchased from the OB (as already referenced in your OP) or grey/flipper?

These are definitely not sold anywhere outside a boutique….

Agreed, except I see them on Chrono24 and various forums and Reddit -- why I asked "grey/flipper".
Always at a significant upcharge obviously.

I almost bought a 321 at a grey dealer. Watch was less than a year old.

I've seen four floating around in the past couple weeks... 20k to 24k.

No watch is perfect, somehow along the way your watch got deranged. Even if it was in the coffin, unmolested since it left the factory, things can go wrong. Bummer.

There are always a couple of dozen or so on Chrono24.....as you note usually in the $20k to $24k range for a BNIB example, a bit less for a gently used one in mint condition.

Most likely a minor adjustment .... They don't have an Omega trained Watchmaker there?

The 321 is a Bienne only item, it has to go back to the mothership whether in warranty or not.

Yup, has to go back to Bienne. It was from a grey dealer. I kept him up to date with what was happening. After I told him 8-12 months, he said he’ll no, just send it back and he will refund me and drop it off at his OB. I ended up picking up a 3861 from the OB as I missed my old Speedmaster 3861 after I sold it.

No they can’t open it as all caliber 321 have to go back to Bienne.

8-12 months. The OB told me there are very few watchmakers to work on the caliber 321. If it would have took 3 or even 4 months, I would have kept the watch and sent it in under warranty. But 12 months for a watch I just picked up today and paid Grey price for……nope.

I would find that unacceptable with Omegas recommended service intervals of 5-8 years.

They only have a handful of watchmakers who are certified to touch the 321 calibre, along with their existing job scope of churning out new 321s, they will have to find time to repair the 321, that explains the long lead time. However i think the OB is just being extra safe by saying 8 to 12 months (as always), it could be done quicker.

By Omega's own standards, servicing a 321 takes about a day...

Yes 8 months in a box and 1 day on a bench.
