Help, please – I am getting a siren call from something that I wouldn’t normally want to consider. I need strong OF hands to hold me back. So... what’s wrong? - It’s on Chrono, so whatever else it’s probably too expensive. - It’s gold plated case and bracelet. - It’s a c.1952 proto-Seamaster, but without that designation on the dial. - OK, that does correspond with the pic on the OVDB for the reference 2635, but the word “Automatic” seems to have slipped from north of centre to south. - “Automatic” is hard to read because it is either a) faded (OK), or b) painted over(??) - As so often, it’s impossible to be sure whether hands and crown are exactly the same shade as the case, but FWIW I think crown is original. Maybe, minute hand too long, seconds hand off-colour? - The OVDB only mentions a strap for this ref., and I have no idea whether the bracelet is “correct”. Great colour match though if not, IMO. - Some damage round minute markers, but it’s fairly consistent, at least between 8:00 and 3:00 – so maybe helps authenticate the dial?? And what’s any good? - Black waffle dial, possibly original(?) - Period correct serial and caliber - Cal 354, possible chronometer version (seller didn’t seem to know) - Rose gold coloration. And in sum, it looks just beautiful, surely? Here’s the pic – seller and Chrono acknowledged. Loads more online. Views, please? Thanks!
Sorry, I do take your point, and thanks for trying to help - it seems impossible to rip individual photos from the website (they're no fools I guess), and my screen grab won't do better resolution. There are a ton of good-res photos on the actual page at https://www.chrono24.co.id/omega/automatic-pink-gold-plated-vintage-1952--id13424578.htm - sorry not to be able to put them right here.
Agreed, better pictures are required, but it pretty much sounds like you’ve already laid out all the reasons to pass on this. Go with your gut.
Thanks shipmate for helping lash me to the mast. But I just would like to know, please - how did you manage to get the pics so easily? (Go easy with the tech, now - I am the same age as some of these pieces!)
Screenshot on a Mac. Shift+Command+4 and then select the bit of screen you want. I'd be lost on a PC...
Thanks, @simomega. Darn those Apples - same principle, much better execution. Maybe my PC needs a spa visit...
For a PC download Snipping Tool, which is free and does the same job. That's what I use for protected images.
