And if it's a case made by Centrale Boîtes instead of the ubiquitous Huguenin Freres, that helps!
Funny, before I clicked the link, my thought was, "must be a CB case." Love the faceted lugs, and with the condition of this one the facets really stand out. By far the sexiest of all Pro cases!

Yeah, I think I got ahead of myself here... this is the nicest one I've seen, but, admittedly, I'm a newb and still learning.

Interesting! I was about to do the 4h journey up to Stockholm to attend that auction yesterday but other things got in the way. They had quite a few nice watches, including a couple of decent looking Seamaster 300 and a Submariner 5512 that actually went for more than I thought considering the condition.

Also, I wanted to see who coughed up exactly $305,133 for the Paul Newman!

It's the scarcity of these models that brought the price tag....It was a very nice one, too.

that at this watch is worth that money, or that the watch itself is exceptional.

$6500 for a watch that needs a service, a clean, and has marks on the lugs, poor lume colour and quality, dented bezel, lume falling out of the hour hand......

not it for me at this price, but for less, yes!

its not a bad watch, and it is well spotted - but like many speedmasters in auctions, the excitement takes over and people pay a lot more than I want to.

now I may be out of touch, and the prices of these is going up....I have always thought they would.

You're forgetting the 20% provision the buyer as to pay on top of the USD 6500.....

Judging condition is clearly a very subjective thing. This Speedy 321 is among the very best I've seen.

Nonetheless, I think there are very few of us here that are willing to put up that kind of money even for a minty specimen. It's the hardest part in this game, to be willing to follow a bullish market, when you are spoiled with much lower prices in the past

I would agree that the condition of this watch is up there - probably in the top 5% I've seen in the past few years. IMO when the condition is such, the premium should be at least 100% of an equivalent average example. If it is in the top 1% of examples the premium should be 200% or more.

Let's take as an example the auction prices of the comic book Amazing Fantasy #15 (the one featuring the first appearance of Spiderman)
Comics are rated from 1-10 where 10 is pristine.

    Condition Price
    4.5 $11,950
    5.5 $16,759
    6.5 $26,290
    7.5 $52,281
    8.0 $83,650
    9.0 $191,200
    9.6 (best) $1,100,000

That's why it is always condition, condition, condition!

I would have paid that price for the watch. Rather than buy two or three average examples...Cheaper.. AND I would still of worn it (after spa treatment..) But that's just me and my wild ways! :cautious:

Oops, I did indeed miss that the $6500 was plus premium, so $7800!

i wonder did you actually hold this watch? I am curious because I surprised that people think it is a good condition watch. I am not trying to be argumentative, I am perfectly capable of being wrong, I have proved it on many occasions. It is just that from the photos, I don't see it as being a fine watch.

if we compare HM MSNWatches example of a 2998:

    http://omegaforums.net/threads/my-personal-favorite-in-my-collection-2998-1.12779/

    that is exceptional.
