Price range?

Hi, I have my dad's old 1962(?) Seamaster deville watch that I am wanting to sell. I was wondering about a price range. I don't know the exact year or serial number info because I'm not 100% sure about how to open the back and I don't want to mess it up. Any info would be helpful. Thanks so much.

Hi mate, welcome to OF 😀

What does the text between the lugs say? That should give a clue to giving a rough guide.

..I was wondering about a price range...

judging the appearance of the watch from your photos, I'd say ~$200 USD tops. A few things to consider are the less-than-perfect condition of the dial, wrong crown and the need for a full service

And I will buy it from the OP for $ 200. Today. Cash (by the way, I'm broke).

In Europe I could sell this watch easy for eur 400-500 every day of the week. Without service and replacing the crown. As long as it works.

By the way, dont try to open it. It's a unishell case which means you can only open it by removing the plexi and crown. Good news, these cases protect the movement really well.

One key question I would say is whether it’s gold or gold filled. Hence @ConElPueblo’s question I suspect.
Othewise you need to go to a professional watchmaker to get it opened. Don’t go to a jeweler as they might mess it up too— and you are totally right not to do it yourself.

I think you might regret it down the road if you sell your fathers watch why dont you try wearing it on a nice leather strap for a few days and see if that works for you .

true - my assessment was based on judging the case as gold filled...

The spring-loaded ends of the bracelet appear to be damaging the lugs, so you should probably replace it.

It definitely needs service since it's losing time, or not keeping it accurately. But dang looking up service shows to be at least 200+ and if its only worth 200ish... Yes the band is hideous and obviously not original. Took it by a local watch guy who deals in omegas to see.

That's about right and could be slightly more depending if new parts are required --- but it will look spiffy once serviced/cleaned and on a nice leather strap. Here's a similar model that I currently own (manual).

IMO, very optimistic to sell this watch for 400-500€
If it runs I have to agree with shabbaz. That watch will sell for 400 euro any day in (northern) Europe.

Better photos needed, but I think I see brassing on the backs of the lugs. I can't understand why you Europeans pay so much for watches like this. 😉

Man I get boxes full of gold filled Omegas from the Philippines. Maybe I should move to Yugoslavia and cash in? 😁

Haha, I am not saying that I would buy it at that price but many most certainly will. I think it is a combination of many people having a lot of time (and money) on their hands at the moment and wanting to get into vintage watches. Especially the SMDV offers a quintessentially sixties look and resembles - or in many cases is exactly - the watch that dad or granddad used to have. On the other hand they don't want the hassle and risk of going to eBay or the like and look to domestic sites with a far more limited supply. That (of course combined with a general high level of wages, overall prices and tax) is driving prices up.

Well... If you sell me these for $ 200 each I would gladly take these of your hands...😁

I must say I'm kind of jealous to read your watch hunting stories. Here in Amsterdam we dont have these kind of shops or markets where you can find little gems. It's all priced ridiculous high. And I can see prices in Europe are higher then (for example) in the US. If there were no import duties I could start a watch business. 😁

Anyway, in my maniac beginning years as a collector I've sold a lot of these SM(DV)'S on chrono so the minimum of eur 400-500 range is not really a guess but a fact (as long as it runs ok). Even with the spotting on the dial. Give the watch some TLC, a new strap and good pictures and it looks totally different.
