Hey yall, got a question about this vintage omega seamaster, https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=550500 seems like a steal right? but if its too good to be true... TIA
i grow skeptical sometimes, it seems like a deal seeing as how other similar pieces do go for a bit more. i suppose im surprised? that no one snapped it up fast even with the price drop. id be all for it if it wasnt for my pending rolex deal
Seems similar to the watchco clones that are on this forum often for a similar price (after the drop) Am I missing something? I am still a n00b
The pricing is not out of line for a watchco style sm300. Watchco is a company in Australia that took new service parts to assemble sm300 watches around vintage movements. Any similar assemblage of parts to make a sm300 is referred to as a watchco.
You'd think someone with 2,000 posts would know what they're doing with regard to pricing. A 20% price drop in one week suggests they don't. Either that, or they were just being greedy.
I think they were trying to catch someone unaware or inexperienced. WTF is new vintage? Very misleading.
Nothing looks to be wrong with that watch, new vintage means it is a new build of a vintage watch. Most potential buyers will know exactly what he's talking about. Cheap at that price and I'm surprised it's still there. Maybe the lack of a movement photo is making it stick.
agreed, i remember watching the videos on this from several of the popular channels, and back then this was a possible watch under consideration (not this one in particular, but a vintage seamaster 300) i was just surprised by the pricing drop and that its still there. its quite possible seller's phrasing is throwing folks off.
same here, and if i didnt just settle a trade deal for a gmt master 2, id be all over this. cause they usually dont go that low. maybe hoping for quick funding
That is part of my problem as well. I think its the phrasing, its a new vintage rebuild. Plus I learned here "rebuild" with no paperwork = not rebuilt. Not really trying to bang the guy or his watch as I really don't know him or his rep. Its just how its coming off to me and I am usually in the bell curve.
I don't believe it's a bargain, I've sold a real WatchCo beginning of 2017 for 2100€ (of course, I'd bought it a bit cheaper than that from a dealer that was closing shop, I always wanted one). Maybe it was a bit underpriced, but to be honest there's no reason to pay over what WatchCo sold them originally for (and I've read somewhere that they still hold stock?)
Nothing wrong with that listing, would want to check it has a 552 inside though and not some other random movement. Since Watchco now charge circa $2750-3000 head only when they ebay them I would say this one on a bracelet is indeed very cheap, especially from my POV since it is already in the UK so won't get stung for VAT like a Watchco would. It doesn't matter anyway as I just mailed him and it is already gone.
This one just sold for over 4k: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Omega-Seamaster-300-300m-Automatic-Diver-No-Date-Vintage-Cal-552-Ref-166-0324-/232432133236Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network I don't know why...
