I'm considering buying a SMP automatic, preferably not more than 5 years old.
I checked a bit online (on chrono24, jewelries,...) and I saw that the price point is more or less 2200€.
IMHO is a bit overpriced and I was wondering what were your thoughts on it. Do you think I can find something around 1800 if I keep on looking around?

My budget is around 1700 euro, and I'm surprised that a SMP sold for this is from 2001, for what I saw...

 

A mint SMP auto of any age won't fetch much less than £1500/ €1700 so I think your price expectation is too low. Yes tatty ones can be a lot less, one went for £800/€900 on TZ-UK this morning but they cost a lot to put right if the bezel or crystal is damaged so the best ones command a big premium over run of the mill ones.

Desirable 2254s fetch even more...

 

Well, that's not a good new to me.
Regarding a quartz, how much can this decrease the price?
