Dear all

I am considering an Omega Constellation 153.029. I have not seen the watch in person but it looks a little beat up, and the dealer is asking about US$2,730 for it. No service history, no box, no papers. Comes with a 12 month in house warranty.

Would greatly appreciate inputs on what a fair price is, and whether this is a watch worth buying and potentially sinking in US$ thereabouts to service it with Omega should the need arise.

Thanks.

First, you may wish to be careful, that seller(or at least source of the pics) you're looking at isn't the original? Looks like this is the original seller: https://asiatimepiece.com/products/omega-constellation-18k-gold-chronometer-automatic-vintage-watch

Second: You're right, that one is well worn. I can't tell if it is compression artifacts or something wrong, but the 'chronometer' and 'certified' text look mildly suspicious. I lean towards the former, but worth making sure this isn't a redial/repaint.

Finally: The solid-goldness of it probably makes this worth quite a bit because of the gold value. BUT the watch itself is probably not a very good one to wear unless you're looking for a ladies watch. That 24mm width is TINY. IMO, it is an attractive watch, and someone might enjoy wearing it, but you'd need to have a pretty small wrist to pull it off. As far as the price itself, ~$2700 seems about 2x what it is worth, unless it has a heck of a lot more gold in it than I'd expect.

It's not really a particularly desirable model, as far as I can tell, so realistically the value is dominated by the gold melt value. The seller will be waiting a long time with that asking price. When I see crazy asking prices, I generally just move on, because it suggests that the seller is not realistic.

Thanks, Erich and Dan, much appreciated. Upon contacting the seller, I was informed that the price has been "updated" from US$2,730 to US$3,730. 🥱
