This article seems to refute the claim that most of the presidents that preceded Trump didn't wear such fancy watches.... ::book::

"Biden thus joins a bipartisan tradition of presidents wearing Rolex. Dwight Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson, and Ronald Reagan all had one. Since leaving office, Barack Obama has been wearing a Rolex Cellini (it's even on his wrist in his official presidential portrait). And, of course, JFK had that notorious Day-Date. "

Historically, I think that Biden has probably worn his Seamaster 300m diver more than any other watch. I believe that it’s an older quartz model. There are many photos of him wearing it - seems to be his favorite.

Where did the thread on the prediction for watch to be worn at inauguration go!??!

Anyway, it seems that Biden came back to his senses and wore his trusted Seamaster Pro 300M diver today!!

OP/MODS: Please update the title of this thread!! :D

Looks like it got deleted. :(
Presumably because people couldn't behave themselves and keep it watch related, and instead let the discussion spiral down the political toilet bowl. ::facepalm2::

I would suspect Biden finds a quartz watch more practical and efficient, he doesn't have to worry about resetting it if he puts it down for a few days. And considering his age and activity level he may find it a challenge to keep an automatic fully wound. In the last year or so of my dad's life he found he wasn't active enough to keep his automatic watch wound.

I will actually concede that it is not just him, or because of his age: when one starts wearing multiple watches, automatic ones start to becoming a bit of a PIA!! (Incidentally, I have myself started to look for a good watch winder to help with my rotations... ;)).

From other pics though, it did seem he has been wearing some of the more recent SMPs... which do not come as a quartz version, or?

It's always interesting to learn about the personal preferences of presidents, including their choice of watches. I hadn't realized President Biden had a thing for Omegas. It adds a unique touch to his personality, don't you think? I'm also pretty sure you can find similar discussions on this social media platform for politics. Enjoy!

Biden works every day. He's not retired. Pretty sure he can keep an automatic watch wound.

It's not a matter of working, it's a matter of enough arm movement to keep the watch wound. I'm in my 70's and I have a few automatics that work fine on a watch winder but will stop after 4 days of wearing, obviously I'm not active enough to keep them wound. Some designs are more efficient than others. Frankly, I would be surprised if most 80 year old guys could keep an automatic watch fully wound. Just a result of natural aging, less physical movement.

Respectfully, comparing the job of the President of the USA or any full time company manager to the activities of most retired people doesn't seem to be a good comparison. Still, I don't know how much activity it takes to keep an automatic wound or the differences between calibers. I am not terribly active myself and can keep my 2254 running. But mine has a new mainspring. Maybe these old guys aren't servicing their watches?

I was going to say that it wasn't a matter of Lefties and Righties, but then I realized your image is from Monty Python and The Life of Brian and those are all women pretending to be men so they can stone someone. Not sure if you meant this image in a sort of deeper message or not but the implications I'm getting out of it make me chuckle

Stupid old f***! Doesn't even know the difference between a Seamaster and a Speedmaster...

Edit: he does look pretty good.

It would probably be as simple as adding it to the list of chores to be done each day by the assistant on duty.
