Hi everyone, I'm probably going to end up purchasing this 1990 18238, as I have recently and am in the process of selling a few pieces so will have the funds available and they're a piece that I think you at least try out But just wanted to know your thoughts on the bracelet. I've had Micheal young recommended, and he has some good stuff on his site, just not sure how much it would cost? What are your thoughts on overall condition? - watch is stiff winding, but date and day still change effortlessly and it runs, however a service will definitely be needed. The watch is from a gold buyer so price is reasonable and should be ~8.5k usd , and I guess I just need some positive affirmation Cheers, Ed And as always, excuse the callouses!
I’ve no doubt that Michael can make that bracelet look like new again, he used to show his fees on his website, but I guess he has updated it. I would guess a few hundred US but maybe gold is more expensive.
He still has the prices right there on his website (http://www.classicwatchrepair.com/english/services/), but there is not a specific price for PM bracelets.
In 2012 a gold Presidential bracelet restoration was $850. Most likely it has gone up as a Two Tone Jubilee was $150 in 2012.
Ouch, that's expensive, but still a lot better than a replacement. 2012 was the middle of the crazy spike in gold prices, IIRC.
That case is way overpolished. Bracelet can be repaired. He did a jubilee 14k for me several years ago at $1300usd. Good work.
june 2018: The price for the band restoration is USD1,350 for gold band* and return EMS/Fedex postage USD40^ plus (optional insurance for 2% of desired insured value). PAYMENT via paypal when done to [email protected] in approx. 6-8 weeks. But this is just a general approximation, we are a small workshop and have little man power, so please be a little patient since sometimes it takes longer. For worn bands, we will recast part of the middle section during the restoration so that the links will be nice and thick. The clasp will only be touched up so all the markings will retain. This way the band will come back almost like new. If interested, please send ONLY the band with a note on your restoration requirements and insured to:
Not sure how I missed the thread updates, but have purchased the watch at a bit less than what I thought, and have sent off the bracelet to Classic watch repair. The qoute was $1350 USD as posted above, and above is a before picture. I'll post a photo when I get it back Not sure if I'll send it to RSC for a service and refinish when the band is done, but we'll see.
