    Hi all,

I'm new around here, but I do post over on Calibre 11 as the majority of my collection are Heuers.

Anyway, I am contemplating getting my first Speedmaster, and have fallen in love with the idea of a pre-moon cal 321 movement watch. And, if it all possible the same ref (105.012, I believe) as was worn by Buzz

I've already been stoped from making a horrible mistake by friendly advice over on Calibre 11, and they advised to come here and learn from you chaps about what I should be looking for, and what I realistically will need to budget.

I've been reading on speedmaster 101, so I'm starting to get the gist of what's good and what's not, but any advice will be greatly appreciated - not just on the watch itself, but reputable sources to obtain one from.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jason.

Hello Jason. Ahh the 105.012. The real (used on the) 'Moon Watch'! ;)
Stick around on the forum and discuss it with some of the experts. There are some very helpful chaps on here who really know what they are talking about. I've been keeping an eye on Chrono24 Speedmasters in recent months. Their prices seem to be somewhat inflated and what's on offer at those prices isn't always correct.

You could check out the sales section of this forum. The items for sale are presented openly to a forum which includes expert collectors and watchmakers. That in itself offers a level of safety compared to other sources. Additionally you could search the 105.012 reference using the icon at the top of the page. That may give you a more accurate idea of what you need to look for.

On Speedmaster101 the 'assessment guide' covers the 105.012 reference with information on HF and CB case backs. This section, together with the current price chart should give you plenty to go on. The author is a well respected member of this forum and it's contents are often recommended by other members.

    Good luck.

    Welcome to the message board.

So many Speedmasters to select. I started with the 3572.50.

The first one has a dial from the 90s. Did not look past that, could be other items wrong as well.

The second one does not have enough pics, and the polish, wow.

The third, yes priced high given the condition.

Try looking in the for sale section.

You also need to post pics in each thread you start....

These are some of my speedies.

It's quite scary how some models and brands become the 'latest and greatest'.
Prices soar and sadly, the trend doesn't seem to reverse.

That looks pretty nice imo, although you need some movement photos and movement serial number. The dial is particularly nice and that's one of the hardest parts to get right. Nice don bezel adds value and is correct. Bracelet looks to be correct early 1171 type. Price is quite high but so far looks like a nice example so....

Thanks Ash... if it is available, looking at the price chart at Speedmaster 101, I guess I should start negotiating at around 5,5K?

Good luck, 105.012 are getting more and more popular so dealers get a hold of an increasing number. Prices have increased a lot as well, but they're still a great buy ;)

Before long, I expect 105.012 to get close to catching up with 105.003 prices.
    Both historically very significant.

Well I hope so!... I wonder what 2019 will mean for the value of correct, unmolested 105.012's?;)

Pushers are wrong on that one, and the lack of lume on the dial isn't very attractive IMO

Option 1 is overpriced without a DON, but you could try an offer of around US 4000 and see what happens.

Option 2 is nice, but will go for full market value as it's an auction. Keep an eye on it and put in a bid towards the end

I've put a bid on the second option. Fingers crossed

Congrats. Watch looks in nice condition except that parts in the movement.
Find him a nice bracelet and enjoy!

I'd be sending that off for a good service immediately. That movement needs a bit of tlc. Nice catch though.
