I bought this "Pre-Explorer" Rolex 6352 Precision with honeycomb 369 dial and cal 775 automatic movement The big bubble back case is 36mm in diameter and the lug width is 20mm. The inside of the back case has the ref 6350 crossed out and on the bottom, the ref 6352 stamped. Manufacture date is 1st quarter 1954 and serial number 29xxx. Some of the pictures on the net has Super Precision, Shock Resisting or Officially Certified Chronometer printed. Does it mean that one is more desirable than the others in terms of value? Is the Precision considered the base model? Any comment would be highly appreciated.

There is a strict 25 watch limit...its an unwritten code of honor between collectors.
You have clearly violated this code and must be fined. The good news is you can avoid the fine by selling a few watches to OF members.

I do know in Air King refs the Precision housed a 1520 cal while the Super Precision housed a 1530 which was COSC.
Just a guess but it could refer to the movement.

Need to replenish the war chest so selling some in due time is a good option.

I don't think at this point whether the movements were chronometer-rated or not affects value. Much more pertinent is the condition of case and dial (superb in your watch). A 36 mm case such as yours is also more desirable these days than a more usual 34 mm case.

No it does not mean base model.
Rolex was experimenting with different dial wording and
placements during this early 50's period.
They were also experimenting with the case to beef it
up. 6298,6098,6350,6352 were all basically pre-Explorers.
Some of these references carried the 1st Explorer on the dial.
    Nice watch.

Many thanks for the info. I was always associating "precision" with the manual wound models, which was the entry level Rolex then.

Very nice watch Pitpro.. I would presume the 6298 is an earlier model?

Yes. 1953. Very short production. Maybe 9mos. It's Very similar
    To the watch
Sir Edmund Hillary wore to conquer
    Everest

Very nice watch but I don't think Hillary wore one of these. Tenzing wore the Rolex and Hillary wore a Smiths.
It's been discussed at length in other threads.

I have a very similar piece. I will post a photos of it in this thread when I get back to my office. Very interesting dial. Yours has patinated to perfection... I do not have enough experience with them to know what fetches higher values, will be something I'll look into and add to in my follow up pic

    Best,

    Thomas

Not in the mood for an argument. I'm pretty well versed what facts are out there.
Ask Phillip Stahl what he thinks.
