Hi all, So I've been wearing my new Seamaster 354 since I got it from Tim and Omega Addicts (http://omegaforums.net/threads/my-november-arrival.2455/) and, as discussed I've been winding it every day(http://omegaforums.net/threads/winding-auto-watches.2456/), however the power reserve seems VERY low. After wearing it for 9 hours yesterday, including winding it when I put it on, and took it off, it died after about 4 hours. Interestingly, I've got the same issue with my other 354 (black guilloche dial) - and their serial numbers are only 2 thousand apart, so obviously part of the same batch. That is currently in for service, as I assumed that was the issue there. But my new watch from Tim would have been serviced first, so I'm wondering if there is an issue with 354s? I don't have any issue with my other two bumpers (351 and 355). My 355 has at least 24 hrs reserve in it. Views? Thanks, Daniel
I'm wearing my Globemaster Chronometer cal. 354 today. It typically will run for up to 40 hours after wearing. I don't think this problem is endemic to this caliber. The only difference between the cal. 354 and 355 is the addition of the date feature. Just about every other part is the same between the two. There's something wrong with the autowind mechanism, the mainspring or both. Have a conversation with Tim, I'm sure he can make it right. gatorcpa
It's a bumper so you need to turn the crown a few times just to start it, but it won't wind fully by wearing it unless you're very active. The bumpers only wind when the hammer rotates in one direction and it only swings about 120˚ so they aren't very efficient. Try winding the crown 40 or 50 turns and see how long the reserve is before you worry about it having an issue of some sort.
Just wound it 40 odd times. It is 8:30am here and will wear it until 5 ish, wind it again, then leave it overnight and report back. My other bumpers have always had sufficient winding without manual winding to at least last overnight, so a bit bemused by this. Will report back tomorrow.
That may be, but I'll wager that they weren't keeping very good time that way. I have a LeCoultre Futurematic, which has a power reserve dial. I generally wind it by rotating my wrist up to the 20 hours mark (it can't be manually wound). If I have an active day, it will stay around that reserve or possibly go a little higher by the evening. If I'm a desk jockey that day, it will run down soon after I take it off. That's just how bumper autos are. It's also why they were replaced with the rotor automatics, beginning with Rolex in the 1930's. gatorcpa
Tim has already replied offering to fix. I'll see how it goes today and then decide. He also said that he'd be happy for me to return now, or any time in the next 12 months if I want to get some wear out of it first.
So, just got this back All working well. Tim (omegaaddict on ebay) fixed it (broken tooth on one wheel, causing a drag) and sent it back. No questions asked. Excellent service.
