    Dear friends,

After 1 month and only 3 times using it, I suspect there is problem with my Speedmaster Moonwatch Ref 3570.50.00, Caliber 1861, year ~2001-2003.
Its power reserve seems very short, so I tested 2 times with 30-35 wound. It only lasts 18-19 hours. This is far from its standard 50 hours.
I also noticed that the crown winding is very heavy. Much heavier than my other modern Speedmaster, Seamaster and Constellation. I know the others are Automatic and this moonwatch is manual winding. Will there be significant difference?

What typical problem coming with this symptom? Should I service it in local watchmaker or go straight to Omega Service Center?

I will try to contact the seller and ask him to bear some responsibility since he sell me a 'lemon'.

When you say 30-35 turns, are you fully winding it until it stops? Because that's the basis for the power reserve.

Until stops? You mean until I can not turn it again? Probably not, I just turn it 30 times and in some of the turn it is not 100% turning because it slips in my finger.

Do you suggest I turn until it stops?

Yeap that's how you have to wind a Speedmaster, you keep going until the watch stops winding any further.

OK I'll try this first before complain to my seller. How many turn usually before it stop? About the heavy turning.........is it normal? I heard for new hand wound watch it is like that. But this watch is already ~ 10 years old.

Anyway thanks for the answer

It could be recently serviced or recently had its seals replaced, or just not used a whole lot. New Speedmaster are a bit firmer than vintage ones though in any case. I've not really counted the turns, but its just until full, I think its over 40.

The thing to remember, as Ash said, is that you can wind until it stops winding. You don't have to count. Not sure about the heavy winding, my 321 winds very easy. My 1861 a little less so, but I would not describe it as heavy, just slower because of the damn crown guards.

Yep the damn crown guard that makes it difficult to grab the crown. Let me try to wind fully to test it to nite.

    Thanks............

Yes full wind till it stops. Many people are told a good 30-40 turns but in reality not everyone can get a full rotation in and blame poor power reserve.

That should do it! My 321's have a power reserve of around 48 hours, although its much better to wind every day. A full wind is about 70 turns, so roughly 35 if you are doing it daily, but just continue to wind until it stops. Apparently it is better to wind in the morning so the watch has more power reserve during the day.

OK, that really make sense.............about 30-40 winding per day after full winding. It is already 24 hour since I fully wind mine. Hopefully it gets at least 48 hour like yours.

It's already 48 hours and keep going. Possibly it will reach 50 hours as spec sheet.
Thank you for your information that saves me embarassment of arguing with the seller or getting unnecessary service.

    It stops at 54.5 hours. Pretty consistent: ~30-35 turns = 18 hours, ~100 turns = 18 x 3 = 54 hours.

Yeap, mine is very old and acts the same. Just keep it topped off as you see fit, I do it once or twice a day, or as the mood strikes me.
