    Hi guys,

Just wondering if this speedmaster looks like a good purchase?

    Seems to be a 3592.50 with the later 863 17 jewel - i think

The serial # seems to be from 1995, I know the charts aren't 100% accurate, but good as you can without an archive extract, meaning it would be a birth year watch.

Only thing I can see wrong is the tear drop chrono hand, and maybe the other hands have been replaced.

currently offered at 3300 aud (~2500 usd)

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Edwin.

PS. Does 1995 count as vintage or modern? - sorry if this is the wrong forum

95 is modern in my books, if it's vintage that makes me feel very old (born 20 years before).

It looks like a reasonable watch for the money, but I don't know this reference that well. The wrong hand is odd, and maybe a sign that someone who isn't used to these has worked on it. Do you know when it was last serviced?

Hey @EdtheAussie I am in a similar boat looking for a birth year omega (1994). I have set my sites on a late 54 million serial because the charts do not specify 1994.
However from your pictures it looks like that Speedy's serial number is 48 million which would place it at 1985 according to this serial number chart. http://www.chronomaddox.com/omega_serial_numbers.html

I personally don't feel that the 90s are considered vintage just yet. It seems that somewhere in the 30-40 year range modern becomes vintage.

Something to note about the watch itself... it looks as if the lume has fallen out of the minute hand.

Best of luck on your search, and if you find any late 54 millions serials please forward them to me :D

The seller had said it was 4831xxxx, and I had thought that was a 95 serial. The 345.0808 / 3952.5 were sold unnumbered up until that time ( well from what I can find, and other pieces for sale)

Anyway it sold overnight. I guess if you snooze you lose!!!

Hey thanks for the reply jake,

I had been using this chart to date the speedies

    http://www.chronomaddox.com/romans.html

Which source is a more reliable one?

I have seen other watches with 4831xxxx serials sold in 95' but guess that doesn't mean they were made then.

Thanks @blubarb , maybe I snoozed and lost then!

I always try to be cautious around references I don't know much about, but now I know that little bit more for next time.

I much prefer concentrating on the condition of the watch than focusing on which exact year it was made.
