I mostly have vintage watches, but I'm scared to wear them at home. I have Children. Watches, especially those with older acrylic crystals, are allergic to children.

I've seen various threads about beater watches, but this is different. I don't hammer things or hunt things with this watch, but it's still not a watch friendly environment all the time.

I suspect there are others here at OF that take their favorite watches off when they get home and put on a watch just to preserve their collections. Unless I'm the only one, show em if you got em.

What a beautiful watch and family! Enjoy both in good health and good times. As to the kid friendly... I have 4 children and my youngest is a girl and my heart....
I just tell her no when she goes to grabbing on any of my watches. So far, so good!

My boys are older, and they both wear their own watches. The eldest will be 20 next week (hard to believe), and he is an Army cadet at VMI ... It keeps him out of trouble! He wears a Shinola Runwell Chronograph, although I offered to buy him a Speedy Moonwatch ... His choice. He'll learn!

The younger is 12 and in 7th grade. He got a Seiko 5 automatic diver for Christmas (you have to start somewhere). He never takes it off, and his classmates are envious ... They love looking at the movement through the caseback. Training a new generation of WIS ...

I chose the "have no children" option. My watches are all fine as a result. :)

There's no such thing as a child proof ANYTHING. Kids can destroy whatever they set their mind to.

Ha, childproof no such thing as @ulackfocus pointed out. But you get them their own and if dad is real nice their own watch box until he needs it back :D

This was actually my first watch as a wee whipper snapper call it c1979ish that my son now has, I borrowed back for the pic

I left this on the night stand yesterday and the dog chewed on it for a while

Luckily he didn't find it appealing, last one he got was a vintage Seamaster on an alligator strap that he ingested (the gator, not the watch head). At least I got the buckle back . . .

At one time about 35 years ago, I used to supply our kid with an almost endless selection of junkers I had resurrected. I finally got sick of that. So I gave him my Rolex Air-King-Date to wear, figuring it would be tough enough to stand up. Within six months he had broken the stem, broke the rotor post, broke the crystal, and trashed the Oyster stainless steel bracelet! I took it back! It cost me a crown, stem, rotor post, crystal, and I serviced it while I repaired the damage he inflicted! The bracelet was beyond salvaging! The watch has been back in my collection since those days, albeit with a Chinese aftermarket Oyster bracelet.

It's my AT8500 for 'child-resistant'. Then again, my kids have always been quite sedate so the worst thing that's ever happened is orange juice spilled on the AT...

But for sporty activities with the kids like trips to the beach, or cycling, I confess I use a Garmin Forerunner. Helps to track the distance cycled too!

The only real solution is get rid of the child, then, and only then will your watches be safe. ::stirthepot::

How does this even happen? Feels like your kid was trying to break it!

This "kid" is now 44! If he was a cat, he could be said to have survived his allotment of 9 lives. The watch he came close to ruining.

Since the kid was and still is me I'm not sure if this counts, but my Seafarer survived school, collage, several engineering jobs, sun, sea, sand and well a few other adventures besides. The only time it got damaged was when my self-built Lotus 7 rolled over it (the crystal split). Good thing my Dad didn't buy me a Rolex all those years ago; who knows how much sooner it would have died.

How about an Omega Seamaster Ploprof, they're supposed to be shark proof; but I'm not sure if lawyers are higher or lower on the danger scale than kids.
