My only one - rescued from a watch lot and put through two (!) services in as many years. The hands and lume dots were resumed by Christian aka @WatchGuyUK ;)

Some great examples on this thread!

Of course everyone is entitled to their own aesthetic preferences, but I very much like well-executed dedications, and they can add so much to the history of the watch.

Sam was a lucky guy – it was an Audemars Piguet...

The day I saw this thread, coincidentally a Chronostop came up for a great price, engraved as well! Purchased from the son of the original owner who's children didn't want it. Seems a shame really. P1010196.JPG P1010194.JPG

I have this on a virtually unidentifiable Mohawk Watch Co. watch. It was from an aunt I never met to an uncle I never met for Christmas just before he shipped off to Europe during WW2. It came home in a personal effects box, the uncle is still buried in France. My mom says that box went unopened for many years. I know it is hard to read "Always Yours Olga 12.25.42"

Hats off to the true heroes.
Moving quote from Dean Rusk in 1966 when Pres. DeGaulle pulled out of NATO and ordered all Americans off French soil... he replied "What about the 60,000 in the cemetaries?" (possibly paraphrased)

I'm not talking politics, only sacrifices.

My 1940s 22242...not a military issue but was owned by a British service member. Provenance is here on OF as I am the third OF member to own it.

the dial is searching as am I. Searching for the missing Seconds bits. Once I find them I can get a crystal and put this family piece into occasional service.

I love stuff like this. Largely because its part of the history of the watch it's self and as the poster above put it, some people worked more than 20 years for a special gift. To erase that erases history in my view.

no idea who Andy is or was, but he was quite lucky getting this for only his 10th anniversary - I got a bit of glass from my employer :)
