Seeing some of the FS mil watches recently made me refocus on why they are interesting and desirable. Simple, straight forward and functional tool watches. They are also (in my case) the first watches that I bought for each of my kids due to the [sometimes] modest price point and ease of use and maintenance. I don't wear mine too often but I like it when my son wears his. Here is my one and only WWW piece. I am guessing that some of you guys have a few to show and tell. Hamilton 4992 Master Navigation Watch circa 1958. Before I polished the crystal, it looks a lot better now.

    Cool thread...cool pics...thanks!

I don't have any military watches...so I'm envious of you guys. It appears as if the U.S. Navy issued watches to flight crew at some point...but when I entered Navy pilot training in 1986, I wasn't issued one (see pic below). When/if the U.S. Navy did issue watches to flight crew, I wonder what brand they were. I doubt if they were Omegas...but who knows.

A few months ago, I was flying with a former USAF pilot at work...anyway, due to the fact that I had just received and was wearing my grail watch (Speedy Gonzales), watches became a topic of conversation...basically because I wouldn't shut my pie hole about Speedy Gonzales.

During discussion, I had lamented that we were not issued watches in the USN in the mid 1980's (see my previous post)...so he states that the USAF did issue watches in the 1980's and that he still has his in the box...and never used it. So he calls his wife at home and she finds the watch, takes a few pics, sends them to him...and then he forwards the pics to me. Pictured below is the ADANAC (Canada spelled backwards) USAF issued flight crew watch that belongs to him.

Yeah, I know it's not my mil watch but at least I flew with a guy that has a mil watch...which was issued to him.

Here's a few you don't see every day. I'll break them up between Axis and Allies.
First the Allies. A couple tropicalized issued in the Pacific arena. Note the larger sized cases for the era. Super hard matte finish stainless cases and treated movements to survive the elements. Unlike the standard chromed softies of standard issue.

    Allies (2).jpg

Next, a couple of German "DH" models. Left is an Alpina. Right a Pierpont. Pretty cool. Larger than the American versions.

And today I'm wearing this Tudor Sub that was issued to a ship's diver in the Canadian Navy before it came to me...

Someone offered to buy this from me over the weekend, but not for sale...

    Cheers, Al

Waaiiiit just a minute @Mad Dog . You joined USN pilot training in 1986? Was it by any chance because of a certain movie :D

    image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

One huge USN commercial but still my favourite movie. First movie I saw on VHS and I must have watched it 300 times during my teens. Pure testerone!!!! Love it :)

Geologist and pilot sounds like an awesome mix. I am a geographer myself, so I had quite a bit of geology as well at University. One of the geology professors was nicknamed "The turtle" because he was so slow. He took the entire lunch break to get from hos office to the cantina, so he would always be late for the first class after lunch. A great guy. I barely passed my final examination with him. He said my performance was by no means excellent but that he would like to pass me. He hated to see people fail, he said.
