Possible Watchmakers for Services on Inherited Constellations?

Hi Everyone, I hope I am doing this in the right place. I am thinking about finally getting at least one or two of these inherited Constellations serviced--so that I can wear them! The two waffle dialed ones are from one Grandfather; the other is from my father-in-law.

I am most interested in getting the waffle-dialed one serviced. From prior (incredibly helpful) threads here on OF, I have learned that the gold-capped waffle has been redialed, alas, but I still like it. One or two people thought the black one may have been redialed, too. (As for the black one, I'm not sure the bracelet end-links fit quite right--would larger springbars help, or is it just the wrong bracelet?)

In any case, I would be glad for any suggestions of where I might send these watches.

[Edited to add: I live in Virginia in the US.]

Thanks very much!
~Chris

Whereabouts are you based?

Oh sorry! I should have clarified that: I live in Virginia (East Coast) of the US.
Thank you!

I'm sure one of the American members will hopefully be able to recommend someone.

Try a search like this:

I'll try it! (I was also hoping for some recommendations from people on the forums!)

Yes, that search will be confined to the forum, so you will get recommendations from members. But it won't be limited just to this one thread, which will probably get only a few relevant responses.

I see, that makes sense! I've just started to do the search--getting a lot of hits. Thanks for the lead! 😀

I sent two of my c-cases to Kelly Hunter at https://artofthewatch.com/ on recommendation from some members here. He has an Omega parts account, did a great job, and was relatively quick in comparison to other watchmakers I have used. If you don't mind mailing them, I think he is a great option.

Yea Kelly does very high quality work. I just got my C-case back from him. He's on the expensive side but you can rest easy knowing your watch will get the best treatment.

If you are willing to ship, the options broaden considerably.

Thank you, cverstegen! May I ask what you had done to your watches and how much it cost? (I understand that every watch will be different, but just to get a sense of the ballpark!)

Yes--I'm willing to ship: or, is there any reason not to?

Thanks, Aroxx: may I ask what you had done, and how much it was?

I had just the standard service done to both of them. A couple of the movement parts needed to be replaced and new mainsprings as well. No cosmetic work needed to be done (just the standard cleaning). I do not know the rules of this forum for posting other people’s pricing, but it was consistent with most of the pricing that I have seen from other watchmakers. I feel like posting pricing publicly may put the watchmaker in a strange position… but I could be wrong. If the admins here chime in and say that posting pricing is ok and in good taste, I can include that. I think of you email artofthewatch, they might be able to give you a ballpark, if that is what you are after. Sorry not to be of more help on this.

Hi there ... I wanted to point you at Herndon Clock and Watch ( https://herndonclockandwatch.com/) ... Owned and operated by Dung Lam

He is my watch guy. He recently serviced my 1960s 18K Omega Constellation. He did a wonderful job on that just as he has with my Breitlings. He replaced the crystal with an Omega OEM as well as the crown. Provided photos of the disassembled watch before and after cleaning. He followed my wishes with regard to not polishing, cleaning the dial without removing patina, etc. I could not be more happy with him. He is a wonderful sweet gentleman also.

Another thing he did for me … I have an old 1988 Cyma that was essentially destroyed. Quartz movement slagged, Crystal missing, delicate case twisted. I gave it to him with the closest thing to the original movement (NOS) that I could obtain after considerable searching for months. He straightened the case, and made this thing fully operational. He had to do some craftsmanship in the movement to get the hands to fit under the crystal. And his price was very reasonable.

Another thing that he did that shows what a standup guy he is, I had a dead Tissot Swissmatic that l learned has a movement that is not really serviceable. It is apparently assembled permenantly and rather than service it, they just replace the whole movement. He told me rather than him do it, send it to Swatch Group and maybe they would do it cheaper. (which they did). He could have made an easy couple hundred off of me but he didn't.

He sells Citizen, Tissot, some Casios, and Seiko. Gives huge discounts on Seiko. Also sells grandfather clocks, wall clocks, and authentic German cuckoo clocks.

If you are in Northern Virginia, Maryland, DC .... this is a great watchmaker.

Hi, cverstegen: that makes a lot of sense (about not indicating the cost of services here on the forums). I can check in with with the watchmaker himself. Thanks again!
