Possible trade

Good afternoon,
I have the opportunity to sell a watch of mine I no longer wear, and my acquaintance offered to trade his Omega Constellation as part of the deal. He will come by with the watch later today, but I wanted to do some research before hand. The thing is, he only had one photo and will pickup the watch before driving to me. So no time to research a lot. From this one photo, the dial, hands etc. look original, when comparing to similar pieces I found online. He was not sure about the reference number, but from googling I came to the conclusion that it is a 368.1201 with a cal. 1120 inside. Please correct me if i'm wrong.
I know it is impossible to really say something based on one photo, but what is your first impression of the front of the watch?
Any input is appreciated.
Jan

Thank you @STANDY. I have never owned anything like this before and do not follow this model or know what to look for. I appreciate it.

I am trading an old Audemars Piguet watch, 26mm men's/unisex model in gold. I think it is worth something around 2200.

The watch looks fine to me. These aren’t really tampered with. Make sure it fits and you get any extra links that go with it.

Do you actually want that watch, or are you just taking it to make the trade? I don't necessarily think it will be easy to sell.

Unless you're in love with the Constellation, I think you'd be better all cash for your watch, as Dan said these Constellations aren't particularly desirable in today's market.

I took it also to make it easier for the buyer and to make it less hassle for me, selling is not my biggest hobby and I do not know if I could have gotten more for the AP watch.

Perhaps I should have just offer it online and have more patience, and I could have do a better job negotiating. Oh well.. next time.

Your Audemars Piguet is a pure class. If I were you, I would not trade it for this Omega Constellation. One reason is the this Constellation is not very desirable by collectors and it is readily available to buy if you like it. The second reason is that, I believe, even with the possible water damage of the dial, your watch is worth maybe double or more the Constellation. Last, but not least, look at the caliber of your watch.I think it is AP 2003 and, in my opinion, this caliber is a work of art. It was a product of collaboration of Audemars Piguet, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin. I am not, by any means, an expert in watches. There are many more qualified members here who can help you make a good decision.

If you read the thread, you will see that the OP is not talking about an even trade. He is describing a trade + cash.

I stand corrected. In this case it all boils down to the preference of the OP.

The AP may or may not have the ultrathin Cal 2003, can't tell from the pic. You can generally tell by the thickness of the case as to whether it contains the 2003, if it's very thin it probably does. It's a great movement, but can be tricky to maintain as many ultrathins are. I have this movement in a perpetual calendar version and when it was last overhauled by AP Clearwater it had to go back four times (once to Le Brassus), they would set the timekeeping and by the time it got to me it would be erratic, finally diagnosed as a bad balance bridge which they eventually replaced. Anyway, if you aren't wearing the AP because it is too dressy, or not your style any longer, there is nothing wrong with moving it on. That's too bad about the stained dial, if it is water caused is the movement ok?

It has indeed the cal. 2003, a beautiful movement. Looked clean as well, and was working fine.
It just didn't get any wrist time and the longer I look at the Constellation, the more I start liking it. Never looked at those and it is not my usual taste but it has some charme to it when holding it in my hands.

I'll go against the current and say that I prefer the Omega to the AP, at least in the looks department. Movements might be another story, but I don't have experience with those.

If you're digging the Constellation and are happy with the additional amount in cash, then I don't see anything wrong. Just factor in the service costs (on both sides) for the negotiation. Given the date of the thread, you might have already traded it. I hope you enjoy it if that's the case!
