Bought an Eterna Monterey today, very much like the SMP. Also did a lot of reading about the ETA 2893-2 movements and thanks to Dennis's very fine posts in the past am very much confused. (Smoke and Mirrors) Seems that all is not always as it might seem. The Eterna and the SMP share the same "motor" although different. Not sure which grade movement either use, the Eterna has the Incabloc but can't determine anymore than that. I also own a Breitling Chronomat with the Valjoux 7750.. eeks. At least I am sure that my Orient world timer is an in-house-movement. At $500 I think the Eterna is an OK deal. Copy from a sellers add. 375d[1].jpg

That's a nice looking watch. If your Breitling is pre-2000 (I recall it is) it might not be chronometer certified. ETA's quality is good enough that you don't have to worry too much about which grade is in the watch. At $500 I'd hazard a guess it's a Standard or Elaborè.

The Breitling is 1994, so not a Chronometre. The retail on the Eterna is a bit of a question, $1800+ but seemed to sell in the $1k range new. Will know more in about a week.

Well the mailman brought a rather nice box yesterday. My first Eterna, a Monterey GMT Enterna-Matic. Very much like the SMP, same base ETA 2893-2 movement, a dive rated 200 meters, and overall a very well finished and a high quality watch. 40mm 13mm high, just the size I like. I have seen prices all over the place on these, MSRP of $4950, normally see them around $2K new. This one has been worn little and at $500 a very fine watch for the money. Like some SMP models it has the intregal braclet, thankfully it wears and fits well as I don't see any other options. Found out one thing I did not know, the GMT hand is independantly setable, and moves in 1/2 hour jumps not 1 hour. This one will turn into my daily/trip watch. Anyone have any idea of its age? I am thinking rather modern, perhaps 06 to 08? DSCF0712 (1024x768).jpg DSCF0714 (1024x768).jpg DSCF0718 (1024x768).jpg
